these were the types of moves that needed to be made last summer instead of e johnson, robinson and bringing back girgens, okposo, jost

I don’t understand the hate for trading away a prospect like savoie…. The entire NHL has a much lower perceived value for savoie than this board does.

The fact of the matter is that KA drafted 4 of the same player and hoped one hit. That one hit last year in benson and we don’t need any more of that type of player right now.

KA dealt from a glutton of prospects for a key piece in a position of need.

I for one will have much more fun watching McLeod fly up and down the ice and going to the net and playing in the corners than watching okposo turn around at the half boards, girgs falling down, and skinner skating backwards up the center of the ice with the speed of the Zamboni

Can't argue with that. But he made them this summer. Live in the present, man.

We all identified major areas that needed improvement. Yes, they still have to play the games, but:

New coach ✔️
Completely remake the bottom 6 ✔️
Size, speed (every single one of these guys they brought in can flat-out fly), grit, physicality, harder to play against, improve PK, etc ✔️
Veteran presence ✔️

I, for one, feel a lot better than I did from one week ago. They still had 2 major holes, and filled one. Hopefully they fill the other.

They could completely fail. But anyone on here saying that, what they've done in the last week "100% won't work", has zero facts to back that up with. As Berman likes to say, "That's why they play the games".

Who are the big pieces and futures that have been shipped out...?
- kingcong39

Say what you want about them but we didn't replace Skinner or Mitts' production. We also traded a high 2nd and Savoie. As I said, big assets have left here and very little to nothing has come in. Byram is the lone bright spot and that's still very much a hope.

I don't know dawg, I get you guys like this trade. How this is, I'll never know. But we can agree to disagree. What we shouldn't disagree on is the fact this is likely not a playoff bound team for 14 seasons. That's unacceptable, period.

The thing that bothers me the most isn't trading Savoie for a 4C, its not trading Savoie and more to get something better. We weren't close before this trade, we needed a TON more. Something our current regime can't seem to solve for any price. Its dark days for the franchise when our dream is an 8th place finish.

Helenius is a faster Jochen Hecht type but more skill imo.

How is Helenius at scoring from behind the goal line?

Know it's time for Ruff to get to Work on how he's gonna put these pieces together. Can Ruff mold them into a Consistent Hockey Team.

I get your point but the Sabres are a better team today than they were yesterday. I think you're also underselling McLeod by calling him a 4C

You keep saying he's a 4C to try and justify your opinion.

Every person on here knows he isn't going to play 4C and that he isn't a 4C.

He may have played 4C at times during the playoffs because of the great C depth the Oilers have (McD, Draisaitl, himself, RNH at times and Henrique, depending on how the Oilers coach wanted to deploy his centers).

I agree. It’s just a thought as to what can they do to get Cozens back on track
- Stripes77

Check his d-zone starts/usage compared to the world's.

Mcleod is your 3C taking away that responsibility for Cozens to flourish Offensively.

The only hill not worth dying on is the one centered around the Sabres doing anything positive this offseason. We're shipped off big pieces of the team and futures and yet somehow got worse.

Who is scoring goals here guys? I'll tell ya for free it won't be anyone in our bottom 6.

- RhinoFan

Sabres scored (244) and allowed (243) almost the same last season.

Figuring they will allow roughly the same (better defense, not as crazy a goaltending stretch from UPL) I'm estimating they need 260 goals scored to be around a +20 differential, which should make them a playoff team.

I also did some quick math on estimated goals scored needed to make the playoffs using last season per team and the current roster based solely off last season. They'd need to find 40 more goals then the current roster scored last season to get to 260, which would be 16th in the league.

If they make no further additions, can they find 40 combined additional goals from Tuch, Tage, Cozens, Quinn and Benson?

That's an average of 8 more goals per player, and I'm not factoring in any additional scoring from the defense.

I don't think it's a big stretch. The only one I'd question is Benson.
