Skinner is addition by subtraction. He's not a top 6 player in the other 175 feet of ice. Which is why Carolina let him go for a fully stocked soda machine. The only coach to get it right since he was desperately signed was Kreuger. Let him go... the Sabres are drastically better off not having the highest paid glider in the league telling young entry level players that this type of game is acceptable and lucrative.

And using McDavid as a comparable..? I don't know his defensive zone numbers but I did watch him during this playoff run and he backchecked more in those 4 rounds than Skinner did in the past 4 years.

Most good offensive NHL players have below average defense zone advanced stats.

So you yelling at skinner. He’s one of many who has the same struggles.

As for “playing with players like skinner”. I played with Patrick Kane for a majority of his travel career. His defense was nonexistent but would pot 3-4 points. I guess you would hate winning games

On the Sabres Danny briere was not great in his own zone. Trade him too? Vanek as well?

The difference, as I'm sure you're aware, is they have other factors. Speed, zone entries, play driving, penalty drawing, playmaking. Skinner is a goal scorer who doesn't drive play, doesn't have speed, doesn't forecheck, doesn't produce on the power play. It's not just that his defense is bad, it's that his offense isn't good enough to overcome his defense.

I like Skinner and his goal scoring will need to be replaced but using mcdavid or Eichel in defense of Skinner ain't it.

I honestly can’t imagine any decent free agent signing here. Unless we massively massively over pay.
