I have a question. Apparently, since Guentzel was on Car at the TDL, he can only be offered a 7-year deal by TB.

But what would stop them from signing him to a one-year deal, and then immediately extending him 7 years? I know that players get extended in the final year all of the time, so why couldn't TB do this?

If you sign a 1-year deal you can't then extend it until Jan 1. They made that rule to avoid what you're suggesting.

I’m assuming there’s a time period where you can’t sign another contract after you ink one to prevent exactly that, but it’s the nhl so it wouldn’t shock me if it were as simple as “that’s not done so no one does it”.

Marshal predicting an “onslaught of cardio merchants” tomorrow for us. I had to chuckle.

I mean, given we signed Hayes lazy ass, I'm not sure I believe that. Would be really helpful to have Smith gone before FA opens up.

It's annoying that we finally have some young guys but we have no roster spaces for them because we have a bunch of crappy old guys we really don't need.

We don’t finally have some young guys. We have specifically Yager and he might not even be ready yet.

Nylander not being qualified by Columbus hahaha but according to some here trading him was a big mistake after he scored 6 goals in the first handful of games with them...2 being ENers...

I saw Calen Addison isn't getting qualified by SJ. Once our best prospect.

There are some good RFA options that didn't get qualified Dillon Dubé, Carter Hart , Michael McLeod and Cal Foote are all out there. They would be solid options on this team....jk jk in all reality Sam Steel, Nils Lundkvist, and Brännström seem like interesting players to maybe look in to

Yager, Ponomarev, Koivunen, Puustinen, Puljujarvi, Poulin... There is like one roster spot available for this group now. Heck, a kid like Howe could click. You just never know unless you give guys a legit shot.

I guess they are trying to workout a 2 way deal with him

They can, but they'd have to wait until January sometime

Huge risk on the players part. Career ending injury (or just a major one) and that "deal" might be off the table

No, it means they were afraid of being on the hook for what arbitration might award him in salary. They can still try and sign him before he hits the market tomorrow to terms they're comfortable with.

Add the fact it’s hard to get noticed when your coach hates anything ballsy. These kids should all be hoping for a trade.

I'm not the hugest POJ fan, but I'm shocked that A) he isn't signed yet and B) he hasn't been traded.

Like POJ for Kaliyev would have been a no brainer for both teams if we were just going to let him walk. I heard that he wanted out after getting bounced around so much the past two years. I'd be shocked if he ends up back here.

Seravelli and Yohe saying that Jake and the Lightning have agreed to terms.

Nick Robertson asking for a trade from the Leafs. Smaller guy, but I wonder if a flyer on him could work towards bringing in some youth?

I thought he was improving and they should have kept him. But if they are looking to upgrade POJ was the easiest to get rid of. Side effect of Graves IMO.

Most of them probably aren't ready and none of the ones that are need to play above fourth line. They needed a third line forward with position flexibility much as I'm not excited about Hayes.

None of those players are really 4th liners. We need real 4th liners.

They need a good hockey players. I'll keep an open mind but Hayes has carried a cloud over his head everywhere he has gone.

We should have been leaving a roster spot open for an entry level deal and used the Hayes cap space toward a Duchene or Lindholm who are good hockey players who have position flexibility.

We should absolutely be going after Robertson. Super talented player, I could even see him having success running with Sid and Rust, but more ideally slotting into a 3rd line role.
