The Penguins are stuck with Jarry. The only hope they have is he gets hot next season and that leads to an eventual trade.

I think Dubas has done a lot more good than bad, including revamping the prospect group with limited draft capital, but he wasted a lot of money and term last offseason. Any last grasp that this group had was largely ruined when he surrounded them with Jarry, Graves, etc.

To me, today, tomorrow, even this week, wont be much of anything for us. We are no longer choosers. We are beggers and we will get the group of players that no contender wanted. We really cant dish out massive deals that teams needing to hit the cap floor can and we cant compete with the teams that are in win-now mode.

Dubas's only goal should be making the playoffs. I believe you can build a team, that with good luck and the stars staying healthy, is a remote possibility, but it will be hard. The Flyers should be better, the Devils should bounce back, the Caps should be better, that combined with the Rangers, Hurricanes, etc. make it pretty hard.

It sounds like the Sid extension will get done. That is the most important thing. I dont care if we pay him the max. He took less his whole career. If he wants to play catch up now, Id have no problem with it.

Speaking of Yohe....

He said a couple of days ago that the Pens have shopped both Jarry and Smith and found no takers. Obviously things could change depending how things shake out today. Just means no other team looks at either of those guys as "plan A" or even "plan B" guys.

- madmike71

I think this also contributed to his pivot to prioritizing the future now. To really boost this team beyond just a solid WC team, he really needed to move Jarry and Smith in hockey deals. He tried and failed, and then decided that there was no path forward to making this team into a contender. That's my read on it.

I think Tampa really overthought this. Signing Jake is good for probably the first half of this deal and in years 3-4, it will pay off compared to Stamkos. But Stamkos was a PPG player last year. Reportedly he isnt asking for a ton. How much better did Tampa get by trading Sergachev and letting Stamkos go for Jake?

Good for Jake! This is right where I thought he'd land overall (7x9), but not the structure I expected.

As much I love Jake as a player, a deal like this doesn't make much sense for the Pens or for Jake given where we are and where we're headed. Seems like that trade worked out for both the Pens and Jake.

I think Arvidsson could be one of those short term players due to his injuries. Debrusk is interesting because his regular season was meh, but he had a solid playoff run.

Honestly, to me, they, at best, stayed the same or are slightly worse off. Without Stamkos, who is Jakes center? Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli? Far cries from the potential of Stamkos or Sid. The first few years, sure, will be ok, but year, the last few years will be tough.

Agreed. I'm happy for him. Security with being in one place for the next several years, nice weather, no state tax, and he got paid. Not mad at it at all, just interesting from the Bolts perspective.

I was wondering about Arvidsson yesterday. And I think Debrusk could be a good shorter term get if they are able to move the money.

Better option than POJ in your opinion? Or perhaps a pre-cursor to a Graves trade? (I'm still holding out hope haha)

Fingers crossed on Hayes. Besides a a deal here or there, I hope Dubas makes some runs after young RFAs on some bridge deals. Robertson from Toronto seems like a good place to start.
- Rocco115Pitt

Robertson is interesting. If he can stay healthy he could actually give you as much production as DeBrusk, and be part of a future rebuild since he's only 22. Of course given his injury history he may just be the next Beau Bennett, but if the price and term are right, def worth the risk imo.

They were a playoff team last season withhout Sergachev. Stamkos isn't totally ruled out for going back there, yet.

I’d rather have POJ, I think. Grz isn’t great even on a great Boston team. Again, Dubas preached younger and faster yet, we are only signing dudes on the wrong side of 30 while letting a 25yr old walk?

Looks like a slightly upgraded bottom 6 and D core. Not that I dont think the ship is sinking, though hahaha.... Plus all the vets are another year older.

My goal for the off-season was to give ourselves a chance to compete for a cup without totally selling out the future. Revising my goal to seeing Crosby traded and winning a cup with a team that actually wants to try.

Marshall on The Fan this morning....

Says Hayes can still distribute the puck if they give him speed/shooters on the wing.

Said Sully wants to play his style/brand of hockey and doesn't recognize he doesn't have the players for it.

Says the PP hasn't changed in 6 years. Other teams know exactly what the Pens want to do because adjustments have never been made. One of the hosts asked, why don't the players make the adjustments? His answer, was something like "the players are doing what they're told to do". Quinn is supposed to coach the PP.

No great revelations or observations. Pretty much reinforces what most of us think.
