My goal for the off-season was to give ourselves a chance to compete for a cup without totally selling out the future. Revising my goal to seeing Crosby traded and winning a cup with a team that actually wants to try.
- MacPatty

You thought a team that has missed the playoffs in consecutive years and hasn’t won a round in how long could come out of the off season competing for the cup? Pass the Dutchy bro.

What is Nashville going to look like if they get both Stamkos and Marchessault?

I'm not too upset with Dubas playing the long game on day one, with some of the lengths of contracts being handed out for D-men. Tanev 6 years and Montour 7...kind of wild

Fair enough. Just didn't even consider them being able to land Stamkos

There's always big money plus term the first day.. And a lot of times it doesn't work out for the team hahaha

Contracts on July 1 are mostly overpays on term and money. Would love to see a study compiling the net value of contracts signed on July 1 vs after July 1 vs resignings before July 1.

Never imagined the worst team to ever make playoffs would be so aggressive this offseason....

I was thinking along MacPattys mindset, but not as extreme. I was thinking we would be a bit more aggressive in order to at least make it into the playoffs and get players who may be able to get us the few wins we had been missing the past few years which made us miss the playoffs.

If this was the plan then why not shop everyone that's not the big 3? Like why is Karlsson still here? I feel like he should have been shopped or traded if you were choosing this option.

Stamkos. 4 x 8. That's a nice deal for Nash.

Caps are making a lot of low-risk/high-reward moves. Im not sure I would call PLD a "low risk" move, but lets be honest, them getting stuck with the latter years of his contract wouldnt be a big deal for them.

I dont mind the Penguins sitting on the sidelines. Some crazy stupid contracts being given out today. I would almost rather take a cap dump and get some assets than pay for an overpaid contract in free agency.

Arvidsson to Edmonton. There's one missed target.

They'll trade EK when he (hopefully) has more value than right now. It's a multi-year rebuild, no need to rush on moving guys out. Same with Rak, you hope he rebounds this year then maybe you can get something for him. No point in trading him now when he has negative value.

This is why I'm OK with keeping Smith. If he plays well in a contract year, we might get a nice pick for him.

I kind of wanted Zucker back, but he's not a 5 million dollar player. Dude gives everything he has every game.

Geez, there’s pretty much no more FAs who will push the needle on this team.

Glue Smith with Sid and try to pump up his numbers to get a decent pick next year.

It’s truly unfortunate management completely fumbled the last few years of this Penguins era.

Really smart for Dubas to not give out any long term contracts so we have the funds to sign McDavid in 2 years.
