Lagersson, Gustafsson, who the hell are these people?
Anymore lowly Swedes out there to pick up on the "cheap"? |

My only real complaint about Talbot is that the Leafs got Stolarz for the exact same term and AAV.
Talbot's more proven I suppose but you're betting on a guy holding it together over his age 37 and 38 seasons, which is dicey (see Greiss, Thomas).
That said, I'm fine with $2.5m and I'm fine with going into the season basically with three backups. It's not exactly exciting but it's a better option than overpaying an old starter who is only marginally better.

Stolarz has more upside but who says he wants to come to Detroit. |

I personally have always been a fan of Gustafsson - or at least always thought he was a bit better than people give him credit for. Should be a decent Bottom pair, PP/PP2 guy |

Yeah, I get that. Mostly just bemoaning the fact that I think the Leafs got better value here. Not that I think Yzerman could/should have done anything different. |

Gustafson is a great ghost replacement. Better 5v5 and can hold down pp2 while Seider takes pp1 back. |

All Yzerman had to do it trade Walman and a 2nd for nothing to sign this guy.
Yzerman better have something major working behind the scenes because the defense is worst and so is the offense so far from last season. Not impressed at all with Yzerman unless the goal is a top 10 draft pick next summer. |

Walman trade still makes zero sense at this point. |

So you can add Chychrun for Nick Jensen and a 3rd. We can't beat that?
You can add Logan Thompson for two 3rds. But we sign Cam Talbot instead?
What will it take to acquire Pinto? A 2nd round pick that we wasted on Walman? By the way, what did we do with the Walman cap space? Let's see...
-delete Walman's $3.4M and add Gustafsson at $2m.
-sign Talbot at $2.5M when we could have just brought Reimer back for $1M.
Are those two changes worth a 2nd round pick?

I could live with the Walman trade if he added a true top 4 RHD to solidify the 2nd pairing but he's done nothing like this so far. The defense is worst than last season and so is the offense. None of it makes any sense unless a high draft pick is what he wants but then he didn't have to spend any money to do that. |

That deal is dead imo. It would have already happened. Trouba not being told he was being shopped to the Wings by the Rangers likely killed it. To spite the Rangers all he had to do it put the Wings on his list and all the teams with cap space. |

WTF is Yzerman doing with goalies. I know this is a GR vet signing but this ensures Cossa will not see an NHL game next season even if he plays lights out and dominates the AHL. |

Eh, it's league minimum.
Last year the Red Wings had four veteran goalies with NHL experience (Husso, Reimer, Lyon, Hutchinson) plus Cossa split between DET/GR. Seems like that's probably the plan again, with Talbot in for Reimer (an upgrade) and Campbell in for Hutchinson (also an upgrade).

Vinny Desharnais doing his own impressions of Kronwall plastering people would be ideal to watch. 4 year/1.75 per? |

I’m definitely not going to worry about carrying 3 goalies or a 2.5m cap hit for Talbot. Could be much worse. - Feds91Stammer Like signing Campell too?

Red Wings have ALWAYS over ripened their prospects.
Personally, I don't see Cossa being the goalie of the future, but that's my 2p.
I don't mind the depth and Talbot is a steadying presence as well. To me Hutchinson and Campbell are just a wash, not disagreeing but seems to be a musical chairs. However, Campbell is a really solid teammate and should help Cossa building up his confidence. Great to see Yzerman adding all this depth and experience, helps the younger guy learn the ropes and find a role within the team.
How do you feel about the draft? I personally liked the Plante and Nygard picks. |
