Glad we got 4 goalies now. Thankfully, the season doesn't start until October. Gives Yzerman time to figure out what to do with that mess

Husso is headed for LTIR. Campbell will mentor Cossa in the AHL. So the tandem is Lyon-Talbot.

Still baffling that you could have added Logan Thompson for two 3rds. Thats a young player who has the potential to take a step forward and become your number 1.

Jensen and a 3rd for Chychrun? There is another trade you could have outbid on. Make it a bigger deal and get Pinto who is asking for a trade. Maybe something like Maatta, Berggren, a 2nd. Add more if needed.

But now you have Chychrun in your top 4. You see if Pinto can grow into a 2C. You see if Thompson can become a starter. Instead we have Talbot, Gustafsson, a total coid at center. Brutal.

Instead of Gustafsson f course, if you just keep Walman, use that 2nd, and attach a 3rd, you have now outbid and acquired Logan Thompson. So your duo is Thompson-Lyon. No need for Talbot.

Why did Yzerman say Husso was healthy and would be ready for this season? That doesn't sound like he thinks Husso is headed to LTIR.

That deal for Chychrun doesn't work. They wanted a RHD not a lefty and no they want nothing to do with Holl...nobody but Yzerman does.

Can't wait to see how fast people turn on Talbot when he ends up with a 3+ GAA and .8 something S% after a few games. Maybe he gets injured and spends the season on LTIR. He is going to wish he had signed back with L.A after a couple of games behind that defense.

Sure they wanted a right D. But you can find other ways. Make an even better offer for Chychrun and Ottawa can sign a right D in free agency. They accepted Jensen and a 3rd. What if you offered Berggren or Veleno with a 2nd. Throw in a 3rd. Ottawa can easily find another right D. Oilers would happily give Ceci away. Is Jensen that much better than Ceci? I don't know. When younger guys like Chychrun, Thompson, are getting traded for peanuts and we're signing a bunch of 35 year olds and depth fillers. Nobody acquired this weekend will be with this franchise beyond 1 or 2 years. All stop gaps.

Ottawa doesn't want Ceci. They drafted him and got rid of him. Personally i wouldn't want Chychrun. He's as bad if not worst defensively than Ghost and likely will want a big raise after this season. Plus he's a lefty (the reason Ottawa got rid of him for a RHD). They would have had to trade him at the draft to have a chance to sign a top 4 RHD because they were all gone pretty quick.

Wings need someone to kick Petry the hell out of the top 4 and Chychrun doesn't do that. Some will say well he can play the right side...yes and he sucks at it. Chychrun is all offense no defense which can be ok if you have a solid stay at home RHD to play with him but the Sens didn't have that and neither do the Wings (unless you plan on making Seider play defense only).

Ok. I guess it was impossible to beat the offer of Jensen and a 3rd. Stick to the Yzerplan.

Wings simply didn't have what the Sens wanted unless you think trading Seider for Chychrun+ is a good idea. There was no match there and i wouldn't be interested in Chychrun anyways. All offense no defense isn't what the Wings need, they had that last season with Ghost.

Again, being a GM takes creativity. Sorry. We don't have the right D you are interested in. But we can offer other assets that you can then use as currency to address your needs. So instead of Jensen + 3rd, which was almost cap neutral, we'll do Berggren and a 3rd, we'll even toss in another 2nd. You gain $3.5M of cap space. Hmm, that beats Jensen +3rd. Now Ottawa can use that cap space to try to sign Carrier, or Lyubushkin, or Desharnais, heck even TJ Brodie is equivalent to Nick Jensen. And if we strike out on every right side d-man, we'll we can use the nice collection of assets from Chychrun to trade for a right D. Don't like Ceci? Keep looking. Plenty of other Nick Jensen types available. A GM should be looking for every opportunity to improve the roster. Heck, watch Washington flip Chychrun as a rental and get a 1st or pair of 2nds coming back to them.

I am whelmed so far.

Talbot is fine. There's definitely risk given his age, and I would have spent a little extra to get Stolarz if that was potentially on the table (he took 2 x $2.5m with Toronto), but fundamentally the "three backups" strategy with Cossa penciled in for 2025 is fine with me.

In a vacuum I like Gustafsson for 2 x $2m better than Gostisbehere for 3 x $3.2. Gus is more rounded. You lose some of Ghost's offense (especially on the powerplay) but Gus is a decent even strength puck mover and better defensively. Still, both of those deals are really good value, and the extra $1.2m in cap you save with Gus is meaningless if you don't actually use it on something good.

The one defender I thought would be really clutch to get was Matt Roy. A true shutdown defender who could take the load off Seider and free him up for more offensive deployment (vital now that Ghost is gone). I don't even think $5.75m is unreasonable for what he provides today but seven years is *low whistle*.

The Walman cap dump still makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I am not particularly interested in Trouba unless we can get NYR or a third party to eat at least $3m of that AAV. EDIT: And now that I know more about his personal situation, it makes complete sense why he doesn't want to leave the NY area, and I'm not sure why we'd even want to trade for someone who doesn't want to be here and would have legitimate reasons to be miserable about it.

Glad we're not the ones paying Perron $4m. I think Berggren (if he sticks around) could mostly fill that role.

Larry Brooks is hinting that Trouba deal is unlikely, his wife still has a year of residency left at the hospital and he has a 6 months old child.

My concern is these are all lateral moves for a roster that had no business being in a playoff race. Were destined to be bad, but not bad enough to get a top 5 pick. And not a single new addition will be around when the competitive window could actually open in 3-4 years. If you had added Thompson, Pinto, Chychrun you might have found another long-term piece. Reimer just signed for $1M so we dumped Walman and a 2nd so we could upgrade from Reimer to Talbot. Pointless.

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports Trouba’s wife’s hospital residency is among the factors keeping him with the Rangers.

Dr. Kelly Tyson-Trouba’s three-year residency at a New York hospital was to be completed this year when her husband’s no-movement clause expired. However, her residency was deferred by a year so the program she is required to complete will instead end on July 1, 2025.

Brooks reports sources claim the discussions between the Trouba camp and Rangers management have been professional without animosity. He also said the rumor that Trouba rejected a trade to Detroit was untrue.
