Nan, not a rebuild. Would a rebuilding team stockpile 1st and 2nd picks? Oh wait, they would.
- bmeltzer

And what then trade them? No offence I just watched them in action … sorry I will reserve judgement until I watch to see what they do with the picks… also how often do you see a team Reach for a 1rst round when they are in a rebuild and not take the BPA? Unless it’s not a rebuild? When do we see all these tough decisions I kept hearing about? Lol…so far the moves seem more about who Torts didn’t like or who didn’t want to be here? Is that what they meant by a rebuild? So far Briere looks like a cross between Hextall and Fletcher… and that’s not a good thing unless your are trying to be optimistic…

The problem I have with your assessment is you are basing it all on the elite prospects rankings, which is nothing more than fantasy. Beckett-Sennecke was ranked 13th and he went at 3. Buium was ranked 4th and he went 12th. Luchenko was ranked 20th and he went 13th. Is this really a reach? I think not! Would Luchenko been there if the Flyers were picking 17th? I don't know and niether do you. There is eveidence that Luchenko would have been gone before 20 if the Flyers did not select him. The Flyers wanted a center and they took the center they believed was the best option given they could not trade up, its really that simple.

As far as Briere, you are right, he has done squat so far. I don't know yet if he is a smart executive or not. I am just not going to come on here and bash Briere when the off season has just started, and he has done some good things already, like accumulating 6 picks in the frst two rounds of the next draft - something rebuilding teams do.

I presume Eric Johnson is there for depth and to hepl the younger players adapt to the NHL. Signing him actually gives me encouragement that more young players will be on defense for the Flyers this season.

I suppose you think signing an extension for Hathaway screams rebuilding as well…😂😂😂

We all know Torts is behind this signing. He didn't even need to twist Danny's arms

Nah not a rebuild. Would a rebuilding team sign players over 30 or almost 30 to deals or long term deals and some with big money?

Oh wait… they wouldn’t. Please remember that the 2nd ej signed and tk extension

IMO, any team in a rebuild should draft the BPA and not for need. Maybe it is bc Danny is a neophyte as a GM and he is still learning on the job. Maybe it works out... who knows.

He is a character player. He oozes culture. He plays Flyers hockey and is the prototypical forward in the eyes of the spiritual leader of the team. He is indispensable to the Flyers. His leadership value is off the charts.

Which reminds me yet again… why the eff did they wait so long to have surgery? Ugh.
- mikeyo27

It's only a 3 month recovery.

Injury update: Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen underwent surgery on his ruptured triceps tendon. He is expected to be out three months and will make a full recovery. Ristolainen is expected to be ready by the start of the 2024 training camp

I believe the NMC kicks in March 2024 and it has a special no trade clause where he gets to pick 31 teams he can't be traded to even if he wants to go.

Here is the problem. Tell me that he was the BPA in their view and why. Don't tell me they didn't draft Buium because they have Drysdale, York and Andrae.

Your totally correct.

Because he could become better then those guys. Which if that happens then move one of them.

I equate defensive prospects to pitching in baseball. Can never have enough.
