Let's look at this another way, please define what your definition of a reach is. I contend that if a player was ranked in the top 20 (which Luchenko was) and a team picks that player at 13, that is not a reach. If the Flyers had picked say Jack Berglund with the 13th pick, I would then say with no hesitation that was a reach.

But wait, most of the scouting reports you read were from the first half of the season. Luchenko had a monster 2nd half of the season and had a monster combine. So what scouts saw at the start of the season would have been very different to what they would have seen by the end of the season. I think Luchenko has the potential to be a 1C, otherwise the Flyers would not have picked him over Buium and Helenius. I think its fair to track all three players and see what happens. And hey, if Helenius and Buium turn out to be better players than Luchenko, I will be the first to say Briere eff'd up. But right now, I can't begin to think that way. I trust Flahr and his scouts.

Not defending JD here but those two "nobodies" are both senior members of Dobber Prospects which is a pretty respected scouting group.

You are not taking into account that perhaps the Flyers scouts did not feel Buium is a potential 1D. Because if they did then I agree with you, it was a bad move by Briere to pick a 2C over a potential 1D. In the end, I don't see dominant, elite 1D in Buium, I just don't.
