I would rather have Goodrow at 3.6 then Smith. Dont like it - hfc355
In the last 2 years Goodrow had 43 points in 162 games/ 0.265 ppg
Smith had 96 points in 154 games. 0.623 ppg
Intangibles and what not, but come on smith is the better player for the same price |

There’s just no way he’s gonna be the rw on that line. If that’s the case come opening night i will be pissed. My guess/hope is that kakko is traded and smith slots in on the 3rd - picklerick

Ehler would be perfect. But what can they trade? Have no 2nd or 3rd round picks for years. Kakko isn’t bringing back much. No clue how they make this all potentially work |

All is predicated on trouba being moved. If he’s not moved nothing can really happen. But we know they want to move him so therefore we know they’re intending to do more |

Makes some sense, but only if we think Smith is an upgrade over Kakko. Kakko is cheaper, even after the retention, but if the return is better than what we paid for Smith then its fine I suppose. |

In a bad year Reilly still hit 40 points
We would lose our minds happily if Kakko or Goodrow ever hit that haha |

My last post was giving Goody the benefit of the doubt by doing the last 2 years.
Last year (when everyone says Smith struggled):
Goodrow: 80 gp 12 pts 0.15 ppg
Smith: 76 gp 40 pts 0.53 ppg

T will be a disaster in the room if Drury doesn’t move Trouba at this point. He already knows he’s not wanted. He may have to buy him out just to save face. |

Would’ve made a lot of sense for this team. Especially for $4.6M. Shocked that’s all they got. |

Agreed. I'll wait until a deal is made to cast judgement but you have to think Drury has backed himself into a little bit of a corner here by opening this can of worms and it not being done quickly. Can't bring Trouba back and teams know that |

Smith on the 3rd line is great. top 6 not ideal but doable. Prefer a real top line winger via trade

Damn man. The nit picking is out of control - Slimtj100
It’s not nitpicking, how do u pay more for a guy, a year after he had a down year? They just talked about it on ESPN and everyone on the panel when they said they paid more than PITT did last year, were like…….. yaaaaaaa, that doesn’t usually happen but okkkkk. |

I was using that as an example of why ehlers shouldn’t be expensive |

Not super pleased with the move but Smith was on an aging and just plain subpar Penguins team. He could definitely go way past his totals from this year.
Not getting rid of Trouba yet is the far more troubling agenda item right now.
Since when was Skjei worth a 7M AAV? Also for 7 years? |

Goodrow kills penalties..takes critical faceoff and is an excellent defensive forward and locker leader. Smith may get more points but he was a huge negative locker room guy with Pens...I will take Goodrows intangibles |

Well Smith's contract ends after this year and Goodrows went for another 3 so I think it's a good swap to get the flexibility to sign Laf and Shesty |
