Looking at the final 4 teams in the playoffs, the Leafs goaltending is nowhere near good enough; Bob, Shesterkin, Otty and Skinner.
And the Leafs D isn't good enough to play so well in front of the goalies they currently have that the goaltending doesn't matter (like the Niemi or Kuemper Cups). - Rare_Jewel
Woll lead the playoffs in SV%. Yeah, not a lot of games, but it's still a thing that happened.
The Leafs goaltending and D isn't, and hasn't been for a while, their problems. Their problem continues to be not scoring enough. Now, in that sense the D hasn't been good enough. Because they failed constantly to get the puck up to the forwards.
I also do find it funny how now Skinner is apparently upper echelon in the goaltending ranks, when he had been all world average this season. |

Stolarz didn't get many starts because Bob was playing in front of him. Skinner had only played 50 games in a season once before last year. Yet you are saying the Leafs goal-tending is nowhere near Skinner?

I was talking to my dad the other day about how he'd be a great guy for the Leafs to get for 3C.
My dad tell me that he's apparently looking or $6M. I couldn't (frank)ing believe it. And now he gets this contract. |

He got hurt and didn't play game 7. I don't care if the goalie never allows a goal, if he doesn't play the games, he's no good to you.
The Leafs goaltending has been horrible for years because they don't step up when the Leafs need them the most. The D has also been bad, because again, they can't move the puck out of the zones effectively which forces the forwards to overcompensate and collapse harder, more often. That, in turn, makes it harder for the Leafs offense to get going. It's one big trickle down effect. This is why most successful teams are build for the net out.
Skinner was clutch in elimination games. Yes, he was average but he was a huge wall when the games mattered the most and he deserves credit for that. |

Stolarz has never had many starts anywhere he's played because he mostly sucked as a starter. He's barely a back-up playing less than 20 games more years than he played more than 20.
Drafted in 2012.
7 games in 2016/2017.
18 games between 2 teams in 2018/2019.
1 game in 2019/2020
8 games 2020/2021
28 games in 2021/2022
19 games 2022/2023
27 games in 2023/24.
That's barely a back-up every other year.
But Skinner did play 50 the year before correct? Correct. Did Skinner stand on his head in important games? He did. |

We'll see how Stamkos looks, but yeah, they loaded up. Still, big big UFA signings rarely equates to big big results, but they do look like a contender today. |

I see one more deal for the Leafs, they did most of their heavy lifting. A winger that can fit in the top six. A place holder until Cowan is ready. This deal will happen later IMO.

That's because Campbell was stinking up so badly and the Oilers didn't have much choice at the time.
