Looking at the final 4 teams in the playoffs, the Leafs goaltending is nowhere near good enough; Bob, Shesterkin, Otty and Skinner.

And the Leafs D isn't good enough to play so well in front of the goalies they currently have that the goaltending doesn't matter (like the Niemi or Kuemper Cups).

Stolarz didn't get many starts because Bob was playing in front of him. Skinner had only played 50 games in a season once before last year. Yet you are saying the Leafs goal-tending is nowhere near Skinner?

He got hurt and didn't play game 7. I don't care if the goalie never allows a goal, if he doesn't play the games, he's no good to you.

The D has also been bad, because again, they can't move the puck out of the zones effectively which forces the forwards to overcompensate and collapse harder, more often. That, in turn, makes it harder for the Leafs offense to get going. It's one big trickle down effect. This is why most successful teams are build for the net out.

Skinner was clutch in elimination games. Yes, he was average but he was a huge wall when the games mattered the most and he deserves credit for that.

That's barely a back-up every other year.
