Loving the Jani Hakanpää signing. Guy is a PKer, hits like mad (4th among D-men), and has NEVER been a minus player.

Wonder if Jack Roslovic would like to sign a very team-friendly deal to come and lead the 3rd line to glory

holes at Crews and Tangos.

Not bad, and he didn't have to give up Marner, Nylander and three firsts to get Tanev.

McCabe isn’t some amazing defenceman the Leafs can’t live without.

They’d be fine without him with the 3 new guys.

He's not amazing, but let's put it this way:

Rielly needs a defensive specialist in order to thrive at 5v5 play - like earlier Brodie, or Hainsey. Tanev is going to provide, ideally, the best example of this.

OEL is not some defensive specialist. Last year with Florida he put up decent numbers, but if you look at the breakdown of those numbers, it was buoyed when he was paired with a defensive partner in Forsling. When he was with Kulikov or even Montour his numbers were marginal (+1 in total compared to +9 with Forsling).

He wasn't particularly great with Vancouver - where he was largely paired with Myers. He did due well a couple of years ago paired when Schenn and playing the left-side.

I mention this because OEL is going to need someone who can play the physical part that he doesn't do too well. This could be Hakanpaa, who is an RD and could serve the part of Schenn - if they keep this pairing as the 3rd pairing. That would put McCabe & Benoit as the 2nd pairing, which I'd prefer to Liljegren in there.

Love him or not, McCabe is a lower top-4 defenseman who isn't pushed into the role unnecessarily (like Holl was; he's moderately capable) and is being paid $2m to do a $4m job.

He probably shouldn't get resigned at the salary he'll want, but while we have him this cheap I wouldn't dismiss that part of his value.

I would also add on, why get rid of guys right now? Plenty of time to figure stuff out and have injuries and need a d man than to scramble mid season.

I'm guessing that's a jab at when the Canucks were rebuilding. I figure a first round pick back in 2018 would have been worth it.

It's tricky. Roslovic is the last remaining decent centre that I can think of and if you could get him for $3m, you probably want to move on from Liljegren to make that happen.

Unfortunately none of these changes have allowed us to get a real 2C who can keep up with the speed of the game - or better set the pace himself.

No, good exaggeration though.

I did say at one point Nylander for Edler and Tanev. At the time they were the top pairing on a bad Vancouver team but they were easily middle pairing.

Oh well, seems to have worked out for both teams.

Briesbois has lost most of the Tampa fanbase. They are bringing out the torches and pitchforks.

I hope Toronto isn't done with moves yet, but it looks like we might be close to it. I'd feel better if they got some more D - if Tanev goes down, that blueline is in trouble again.

Once tanev puts the leafs jersey on, he'll try to do too much and will probably be injured often.

I would suspect more of the heavy lifting is done for this year, maybe a minor trade here or there.
Gotta wait until next off season, after they get tossed in first round. Bigger changes to come.

Arthroscopic surgery back in March or April ...was day to day in the playoffs b/c they didn't know when he'd be ready. Not sure what that means for next year but they said he'd be ready to go.

He's had a history of knee problems too ..so probably why he was a lil' cheap?
