OEL:
"This past regular season, OEL put up overall strong numbers, tilting the ice in shot attempts (56.14 percent) and expected goals (54.33 percent) and outscoring opponents 49-40. He also scored nine goals and 32 points. A Leafs defenseman hasn’t scored at least nine goals since Morgan Rielly put up 10 in the 2021-22 season. OEL owns a good point shot; he can both sift it through traffic and hammer the puck if he has a clean look."
Let's add more refrigerators to the back end though. - gravyface
From the games I watched I thought he was pretty good. |

Tanev is the best passer using his face in the league - drexel
I held a similar title back when I played in a ball hockey league. League leading goal scorer... with my face. |

He’s not the starter. He’s not the backup. He’s their 3rd guy and he’s basically free, especially if he starts on the Marlies roster. If he’s needed and he’s healthy, he’s as good as they’re going to get.
Very little downside. - Canada Cup
With Woll being as often injured as he is and Stolarz being nowhere near a starter, having Murray in the back pocket does make sense at such a low price.
But it also makes the Stolarz deal look stupid considering the other options available. |

pretty obvious the Leafs dont get the high end players to take any discounts.
just suck up any free money they could use to improve the team

Yeah, and nothing changes around here, with some of the HB "fans": everything is awful, all the time.

Yeah, I'll always take a hard ceiling guy or a theoretical ceiling guy and OEL has put up excellent numbers in the past.
I just don't like the L/R mix right now. Hopefully something happens there still. |

everyone in the division contending with the leafs got weaker. detroit, ottawa , buffalo and montreal still suck. you could argue boston got better but lost Ullmark. |

Some people are gonna be really shocked when they realise that this past season was the outlier in Reinhart's career, and not the new norm. |

Talbot, yes. He's proven he can be a starter. Stolarz has never played more than 28 games in a season. And he's 30.
Campbell has sucked but at least he's played 40+ games before. The Leafs needed a "back-up" who could become a starter for long periods of time that Woll is injured for.
If Stolarz was an insurance policy, they basically paid for one with 30% coverage but paying full price for it. |

Agreed. We've upgraded 2 defense positions, and frankly, I'd rather have Stolarz than Samsonov.
So three positions improved, 2 in the places we needed it most, all with minimal real cap space, and everyone is poopting on the GM.

I agree you on that man - good player he’s not that good. I think his signing was a good price though considering. He’s not gonna light it up like that again |

I'm not sure they covered this in Nursery School, but you can actually count past 28.
