They could…. There a path.

But your right they won’t because they are in the wrong path

Well to be fair what’s the narrative been ? Need elite top end talent right?
Many have said zeev has that. Some said he’s gonna be top dmen from draft right? Some said could be best player outside celibrini right?

What’s the difference between some 12 pick or #1? Why would you NOT risk that? Because of some illogical mythical might be scenario that causes embarrassment? Maybe? Nobody would’ve been having any of that. Had he drafted zeev (who many compare to Quinn Hughes) the narrative would’ve been nothing but jumping for joy at the steal of the draft.

And don’t be fooled for a 2nd there never was a question about zeev character why would he risk his future because same agent as friend cutter. They’re all friends. He would’ve been thrilled to be taken by Philly. What did zeev say when he was drafted? “I just wanted to see who wanted me”. All excited. Sounds like just what we need

- Stayin alive

I've never heard anyone say the first bolded.

As for the second bolded part - I think a #1 overall is a HUGE difference and would take that risk. i simply don't take that risk if it's an unknown mid-round pick. agree to disagree.

Penguins probably had more top 5 picks on their team than anyone and the Crosby draft was very very very fortuitous. The Pens aren't in Pittsburgh today if they don't win the lottery that year.

Regardless, strength down the center is more important from a team aspect despite how great a career an individual has.

- Flyers_01

Some might say that’s the way to draft and built a team but in reality, they both got lucky and got help

They continue to hold on to the delusion that they can win and rebuild simultaneously.

They overvalue “culture” along with experience to the detriment of building a contender. Replacing Fletcher with Briere is optics pure and simple. Flahr is still running the scouts, development is still a mess, Lappy is still running the farm club and a cheerleader sits at the top of the hockey ops dept.

Hilferty can chat with all the fans he wants and God Emperor Tortorella can continue his passive/aggressive pseudo tough guy bs, but nothing has changed nor will it.

New era of orange my ass, they are well on their way to a 2nd decade of mediocrity and irrelevance.

- BiggE

The 2nd decade is already locked. Look if they somehow start doing everything right, drafting high, selling ufas. The soonest their window opens imo would be the ‘31-‘32 season. The prospects that they drafted will really been in charge of the ship. That’s if they do everything right!

lol i'm not whining, i'm laughing at you. the same talking points, the same digs, the same...everything. repeated daily. to the same 6 or 7 people.

that's called an echo chamber. but i get it. misery loves company. you feel apart of something. we are all really proud of you.

again, seems healthy.

to be fair, it's my fault for coming here expecting anything different.

how did I skirt the question? what trades?

- anti-lame

To be fair at least you admitted coming here is a fault that you own (progress!). really healthy, no?

Let me ask you this - do you think the Flyers have been a well run organization over the past decade plus? I know Dad is a big guy with the club that "when retires everyone will see him as a great man and great career" or some other paraphrasing bs based off your previous comment(s). You literally come from your father who is fed by the flyers. They paid for everything you have... so be objective in answering how this club has been over the last decade. You can do this.

What would the fans of any sports team do when things have been so poopty year after year? Could you imagine if the Eagles were run like the Flyers?! Fans can have opinions and they are free to share them.

What is laughable is that you think anyone on this site really cares what anti-lame thinks. I think 85% of this board laughs right back at you. You act like some entitled little rich kid that always has to have his way (Ex: giving Bill crap and discounting his work). Most of us have been fans for life and have gone through the ups and downs with the Flyers. The last decade has been a disaster. Fans have a right to be pissed at this team whether anti-lame agrees or not.

The question about the hockey trades was a legitimate and honest question. Then you go on your high horse about whining while whining yourself. The question was to see if you have any knowledge of hockey trades b/c DB mentioned he has some discussions in the works. Since your Dad is some big guy over there I though maybe you had some insight. That was it - not hard to follow along.

The Flyers drastically overvalue intangibles. That's one of the deep core issues of this franchise. Stuck on the model of the 70's. There is no indication that is changing under the new "regime"

You asked me about DBs hockey trades. Not rumors or what he thinks is cooking. so if that's what you meant then you didn't word it well. I commented on the trade that did happen - the 32nd pick. I have not heard anything that is imminent. Maybe that answers your question.

As far as Bill is concerned, I have a great deal of respect for him, as does dad. he's the one who told me to read bill in the first place. Bill and I disagreed on Frost and the disparaging of other players on the roster in order to prop up Frost. That came and went and it's over. I'm still here because bill is a great writer. Never once discounted his work as a whole.

I am really proud of you for being a fan so long. Really, I am. That's really cool how old you are. But at the end of the day I have an idea of how they want to run this team and I have come to terms with it. They want to win their way with their guys. I know a lot of folks here despise that which is why I say stop announcing that you're all going to renounce your fandom and just do it already - because it's not going to change. The sooner you come to terms with that I promise the better off your blood pressure will be.

yes, the flyers have given our family a lot. which is a huge reason why I refuse to endlessly sh!t on them. at the end of the day its sports - and it's not that serious. I'm sorry that you've spent a lot of time and money on this "crap organization" but you are also free to leave. I get it - you're likely close to death and are desperate for a win. but we laugh at fans like you because holy sh!t none of this really matters that much. you sticking around as a fan, knowing how this team operates and will continue to operate - is absolutely a YOU problem.

I’m still deciding which is worse :
Db said zeev gonna be a great player (so they agree with the predraft evaluation?) but they have too many like dmen in system so they went with Jett who he says they had rated similar

So either he’s lying or incompetent. Still deciding which would be worse

"You know what, that's one of the things that I'm most excited about, too, the chance for Matvei to learn from a coach like Torts," Brière said. "I know he's gonna coach him the right way, just like he does everybody else. He's gonna be tough on him, he's gonna be fair, and he's gonna teach him the right way.

"That's one of the, I think, best news about all of this: He's gonna come here, nothing's gonna be given to him, he's gonna have to earn it. Knowing how competitive we've been told he is, it's gonna be great, it's gonna be fun to see. I know I'm really excited about that matchup."

And what if Michkov struggles and does face the prospect of a benching from Tortorella?

"Torts is hired to coach the team," Brière said bluntly. "John is gonna be in charge of the ice time and if he needs to scratch him because he doesn't play the right way or doesn't listen, coach has the authority to do that."

Boy is this going to be fun. I think the Flyers should teach Frost how to speak enough Russian to keep Michkov company when they are riding the pine

Close to death?!? What a franking weird thing to say - as you would say. Not even remotely close kid. At least you admit you can't be objective. Thanks for confirming.

Now, answer the question - has this team been a well run organization over the last decade plus?

Regarding the bolded part - common fans, unlike you, don't have the level of insight that you apparently have. All we can do is go by what they say and what they do. Is it that hard to understand?

still with the team so they have at least made one really really good decision.

i am all for criticizing the team on aspects I don't agree with. but I am not in the business of looking for things to over exaggerate to be in a perpetual state of misery so a couple of strangers in a message board can all high five each other every day.

it's not healthy. why watch if you get zero enjoyment from them?

"The value that we got last year coming down the stretch, playing important games, it would've been nice to get in the playoffs and get that playoff experience also. I feel we'll be competitive. At the end of the day, we're not trying to build a team to make the playoffs, we're trying to build a team to win the Stanley Cup, so I want to be careful there.

"For us, it's not just about making the playoffs. When we take a step forward, it's to become closer to being a contender. That's what every move is made for.

I really want to believe you Briere .. you can assure the team takes a step forward to becoming a contender by trading away some players now and finishing low in the standings next year for a high pick in a deep draft.

"Do I hope we're in the running? Absolutely. I hope we can somehow get into the playoffs. That would be great for the experience of a lot of our young guys who haven't experienced it, especially here. The atmosphere of playing a playoff game in Philadelphia is pretty amazing, so I can't wait for this team to taste it again."

You don't really believe this Briere do you? I'm still kind of inspired by you saying you want to build a team to win a Stanley Cup. Can't do it without elite talent Briere. Teams don't trade you potential elite talent, unless they are named Quitter. Thus the only way to get it is to pick high like the Sharks, Ducks and Blackhawks are doing for multiple years in a row.
