You and I both know that the day after you get banned, the Rangers are going to make a big trade/signing and you will be unable to contribute. Keep your powder dry and stay cool my friend! - TommyGTrain
it just seems totally impossible to get banned anymore, what more do I have to do

If you make it an anchored variable cap, meaning you have a certain # that acts as your anchor and then its variable dependent on various tax and currency implications, it makes it even. That’s just strictly a cap idea.
And all the other variables you mentioned are already a factor, but they’re not loopholes in cap rules. That’s just life. I can promise you this, if Utah or CBJ got really good and were on the cusp of winning the cup, players would sign there because that should be a players ultimate goal. - Bean_Dip
Sure but we saw the opposite for a while too. Florida and Tampa were crap for years. Dallas had stretches of being bad as did Nashville. Those teams are good now and we're seeing a lot of players sign there, but maybe it has less to do with money and more to do with the fact that they are actually good teams.
I don't know what the answer is but it's not as simple as "no state tax teams are at a distinct advantage" because those teams would perpetually be better than the rest of the league but that hasn't been the case until very recently, and even so in the past few years other teams at the top of the standings have been NYR, EDM, COL. All teams with big taxes |

What does a residency mean exactly? It not in his contract to not be able to be traded because of a spouses residency. wtf man

I would rather you remain here posting occasionally when you're calm than getting banned. Keep your cool and stick around. I know why you're upset, but stop pouring gasoline on the fire --- you're gonna get burned! - TommyGTrain

A doctor residency is needed to get your graduate medical degree. She already has her pre-med, but the residency (working at a hospital learning from other doctors) is needed to get the graduate degree. I could be off a little. But agreed that it shouldn’t be part of the trade discussions. A lot of players spouses have jobs. She could also probably transfer, but not sure on that. |

By working in NYC ( where MSG is located ) players must pay just over 14.75% income tax combined --- thats NY State and NYC tax. This does not include the Federal income tax that everyone must pay.
So if the Rangers and Nashville both offered Stamkos the same $8mill/yr salary, Stamkos' take home pay is over $1.1 mill/year greater by choosing Nashville!
This is crazy! This REALLY needs to be addressed in the next CBA... - TommyGTrain
How would you fix it? The States controls the taxes, not the team. What would there be a penalty assigned to non tax States? |

I think you could fix it by having a tax adjusted cap. So the rangers could have a higher gross cap than a Florida team for example. So that the net dollars the players make after taxes are equivalent. |

Whether or not people want to agree that it impacts a player’s decision, it’s a loophole that doesn’t make the salary cap a level playing field. There are advantages that some teams get to exploit, which is why I’m of the belief that something should be done. - Bean_Dip
Tampa has been in the league 30 years and now you want to adjust it?
Then what about the Canadian teams? How ill that tax adjustment work? |
