Islander fans seem to get the situation. We are happy in a way Lou could not go crazy in UFA since the Islanders have very little Cap room. We are also happy he kept the draft picks for once. I still hope the Islanders trade Nelson and Palms by the next deadline and get a nice haul.

We couldn’t go crazy but Drury should be fired for not going crazy 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also got Duclair for less than the what the Rangers have to pay Riley Smith even after Pittsburgh retention. So yeah, I'd say Loui is fine for now.

Doubt any team would take that full $8M contract. At least trading for him you can send some salary back or have the owning team retain some cap.
- mames11

Does that $8M go against the NYR cap if he's waived and no one claims him? Or is it a portion of his contract?

7 million of the 8 million would be dead money.

I thought Duclair was a smart signing. He should be good with Bo and Barzal. It was a nice shock Lou was able to sign someone for less than 7 years. I thought the Tommy Abelin hiring was good. Hopefully he can do things with the defense. I'm not sure Pelech and Pulock can revert to form though.

Think Rangers can only recoup $800k - $1M. That leaves about $7M of dead cap. It isn't worth doing that. Let him play and hope the coaches find a better role for him so he can be better.

Huh??

3.75 for one year is more then 14 million over 4 years

Interesting math you’re using

I mean this whole situation is annoying, but it is only July 2nd, there is still plenty of time for things to get straightened out

but Tom's going to make it absolutely impossible to just have reasonable discussions about it, so I'm just checking in to say hi and bye, I can't deal with this

I'm so tired of millionaires being cry babies about the consequences of sucking.

I like Trouba, I think he would/will be better next year. But that doesn't change the fact that he was a big piece of why they lost games this post season.

Drury has been treating these decisions like a business. Do I think it could be done better? Yes. Do I care about the feelings of a millionaire that has sucked at times? No.

If Trouba had been better he would not be in this situation.

Anyone who thinks this will have a long term effect on NY's ability to attract free agents is delusional.

I just hate that hockey has these boring offseasons in terms of all the other sports. Football, Baseball, and Basketball have offseason that last more than 1 day, and they are exciting.

I think the Rangers should be fine long term in signing UFA's, but the Florida teams and Nashville are becoming a real threat.

I would have been so pumped for Stamkos or Guentzel but they were never really in the cards at the AAVs they signed.

Some other players would have been nice but for whatever reason NY didn't hit on any of them. Still some interesting pieces left, Tarasenko for instance.

At the end of the day I'm just mildly annoyed. Not going to loose my mind over this anymore.

We'll that's the hard cap and hockey's inability get over the lasting fallout of the 2004/2005 work stoppage. League (frank)ed itself on that. We as hockey fans just gotta take the L when it comes to that.

Seriously. Can we not just give the offseason even the smallest amount of time to play out or has everyone already decided they are mad and are too hard headed to come back down to earth (dippoop 1 and dippoop 2 aside)? I will grab my pitchfork right alongside everyone else if nothing else happens over the coming weeks, but it hasn't even been 24 hours. Go outside or something jfc

Islanders cannot sign quality UFA's so we do not have that problem. We complain about keeping our lousy roster together for years and re-signing our own players to lousy deals.

Neither did I. Nashville is going to regret some of these deals in a few years. They better win a cup in the next 3.

Spot on. NYC will always be an attractive destination for free agents. You think they care what happens to Trouba or Goodrow? Maybe, just maybe, dont score only 1 goal in 82 games OR dont be on the ice for 50% of playoff goals against. Then you won't have to worry about the organization trying to get rid of you

Don't even go outside, just click the twitter link i posted about Perreault and Othmann tearing it up together right now... What if Perreault is coming to save us all and Othmann has taken a step forward? Even if Trouba makes it impossible to get rid of him and handcuffs us, worst case scenario, the forwards could look something like this (i'll say Kakko gets traded here just for whatever):

Kreider Mika Laf/Perreault
Panarin Trocheck Laf/Perreault
Othmann Chytil Smith
Cuylle/Rempe/Vesey/Carrick/JBrod/Edstrom

I saw the Vince tweets. Super encouraging. I wonder though if Perreault is a serious option for next year. I tend to think hes one year away but he also seems pretty special. We will see. Othmann I am very optimistic about competing for that 3rd line RW position. Kakko traded for whatever you traded him for and put Smith with Kreider and Zib
