We'll that's the hard cap and hockey's inability get over the lasting fallout of the 2004/2005 work stoppage. League (frank)ed itself on that. We as hockey fans just gotta take the L when it comes to that. - blacksheep1
I just hope both sides are reasonable with the next CBA. Things need to be fixed. It's very difficult for teams to make real changes and to break out from being stuck in the middle of the pack.

His wife is in a hospital residency and couldn’t recommend to him not playing in the playoffs on a broken ankle but can recommend he hold the Rangers hostage and prevent them from building a cup team so she can finish a residency without him leaving? What are we doing here?
More blaming of the wife and not the actual problems here. We're so close. |

I saw the Vince tweets. Super encouraging. I wonder though if Perreault is a serious option for next year. I tend to think hes one year away but he also seems pretty special. We will see. Othmann I am very optimistic about competing for that 3rd line RW position. Kakko traded for whatever you traded him for and put Smith with Kreider and Zib - NYR11
Or (frank) the Kreider/Mika 5v5 experiment after all this time and try Smith in Kreider's spot. Why do they need to play together 5v5 when all the magic happens on the PP and PK? They can still be lovers and friends |

If Kakko gets traded I will go full Tom. - JRR1285
1. I love you too much, never go full Tom. It's not for the well liked or the sane.
2. They have to move Kakko, he's a poor man's Jesper Fast but slower. |

That take is just as dumb as the opposite end of the argument. I can't wait to see how bad this gets on social media with the imbeciles. |

Smith is a RW though, no? Kreider is a LW.
I am all for splitting up Kreider and Zib, though. I think that is whats best for the team

I would have been so pumped for Stamkos or Guentzel but they were never really in the cards at the AAVs they signed.
Some other players would have been nice but for whatever reason NY didn't hit on any of them. Still some interesting pieces left, Tarasenko for instance.
At the end of the day I'm just mildly annoyed. Not going to loose my mind over this anymore. - JRR1285
Stamkos is a great player, but to get 8 mill at that age is still shocking. Stamkos might be a different case, but hockey runs into trouble by giving players close of 30 these crazy 7-year contracts.

And he's made money. Nothing like signing a deal that will help the team build a Cup winning roster, although they have done pretty well so far. |

Or, and hear me out. Drury could grow a pair of balls as he's the GM. But again, Trouba has yet to be trade because nobody wants him.

They've needed him to be better for 3 years. I blamed Quinn and Gallant. But I can't do that with Laviolette. Laviolette put Chytil, Laf, and Kakko in spots to succeed. Chytil pre-oncussion was cooking. Laf was elite.
Kakko stinks. He's bust he's too slow, he's too timid. It's over. Let him go and have him Joel Armia somewhere else. |

I'm going to respond here because there's some semblance of actual, good faith, discourse. Wrong as it may be.
By all accounts Trouba has positive trade equity, as unbelievable as that feels, and there was at least one team (Detroit) willing to make a trade. The holdup appears to be Trouba's attitude towards being traded (well within his rights). If the team(s) that may want him who also are not on his no trade list are worried that the $8m man they are trading for doesn't want to be there that would obviously put them off. The only things Drury could do here if a trade does not materialize are waive him or buy him out. Neither of which should or could happen right now. If the possibility of a trade completely dries up, plans b and c should be the next steps. |

I don't fully get the hate on Drury. There's nothing wrong with kicking the tires a bit to see if there is interest in Trouba via trade. Nothing. Nobody is untouchable that doesn't have a full NTC/NMC.
Don't forget...Trouba is Gorton's folly...not Drury's. He is doing what he can with what he has. He could most certainly not sign those big names that went elsewhere...they all took long term deals (4+ years). Rangers cannot do that right now with numerous big fvcking contracts needing to be handed out this time next year (Igor, Laf, Miller...at least).
Would I have liked to get JG, Stammer, March, etc? Certainly. But I get why it didn't happen. I do feel a few of those contracts handed out by other teams will come back to bit them in the @$$ at they are going to pay those guys until they are in their late 30's (except JG).
FA just started. Rangers do not need super sexy names right now. They didn't finish in last place this past season...so unsure why many think Drury is doing a bad job here. - mames11 THIS! Too many arm chair quarterbacks on here! Need to get back in touch with the real world! Coulda, woulda, shoulda!

Correct.
Drury is at fault. Who helped make him captain? Who's been unable to trade him? Who made Trouab's wife a priority at the ceremony. Who's wilting to the wife and player demands?
The often celebrated, rarely worthy Chris Drury. Chris Drury has been a Rangers problem for almost 2 decades. Enough of this guy. |
