Ummm did we forget Matt f'n Grzelcyk is signed for LD too?.... I forgot for a minute haha.
So Tanger, Petts, Graves, Grzelcyk, Aho, Ludvig, St Ivany and Shea all competing for 3 LD spots...feel like something has to give here..
Really hope Petts doesn't go... Fvck |

Lots of these guys can be buried in the AHL. It’s not as big of a log jam as it appears |

Didn't forget. I assumed the top 4 will start the year as Petts-EK, Grz-Letang, and that St.I is a lock for 3RD. Graves will start either as 6 or 7 (almost certainly 6 because they want to boost his value), then Aho, Shea, Ludwig battle it out for the last spot. Aho most likely wins and other 2 are waived (probably end up in WBS). |

Right, but why throw money and contracts at all these guys? Aho provides better value at that cap hit than Grzelcyk, so why sign grzekcyk? It's just dumb moves with no real overall plan.
Sign Aho and Grz $ could be allocated to a 1LW. Just feels like we operate without a big picture view. |

Yeah it’s pretty simple
LD is Petts, Grzelcyk, Aho, and Graves
RD is Karlsson, Letang, and one of St. Ivany/Shea/Ludvig |

Graves will worst case be on the 3rd pair. They only save like $1M by burying him and frankly, he is likely going to be our 2LD. He was not good this year, but he is still better than Grezyleznsdk. I think Graves is going to bounce back. |

Shea, Ludvig, and St. Ivany are all on 2 way deals this season anyways. |

To be fair Ive actually had those thoughts about those two teams some offseasons, as well haha.. think they're going to be better/make playoffs the upcoming season. Really thought Sabres were going to be in a WC spot, or at least challenging much more for one, last season. Thought the Red Wings would too and was right....they were so close ...all of those come from behind wins in the last few weeks. - MattStrat
I really want Brady to beat Mcdavid in the cup finals. |

The big picture view is we are rebuilding. Why is this so hard to understand?
They plan to trade Grz at the TDL and think he'll have more value there due to his vet cred. It's just spending some of this year's cap space on a mid-round pick in next year's draft. |

When I said buried in the ahl I meant contracts. Grz is the only one we’ve signed that can’t be completely offbooked to the ahl. Aho and the other guys that we resigned that were already in the system are not consequential to the cap |

I've been hard on Geno but you are definitely correct on how he has had a mess of wingers and it has been years since he has had some consistent talent to play with. I would like to see Geno pushed to the 2nd powerplay, but then again a) we have less talent than we had a year ago and b) maybe Quinn can find a creative way to utilize everyone on the powerplay.
One reason I occasionally suggest moving Malkin to the wing is to free him up from defensive responsibilities and let him blow the zone like Edmonton does when they pair Drai and McDavid. While I'd prefer to have Geno on Sid's wing if they did switch it up, you could even make the case that having Geno play LW and letting Hayes take the defensive responsibilities would be a good match.
I'd rather go Geno-Hayes-Rackell than DOC-Geno-Rackell. - MacPatty
You’re not allowed to say anything negative about Geno dude. He’s above any form of criticism, even though the Pens have paid him more than Sid for most of his career. He really just needs to get himself in better shape. Actually commit to hockey, now that it’s not just easy for him. |

Yeah, well management also owns a piece of keeping him motivated and putting him in a position to succeed.
If you walk into your dive bar on a hot day and they serve you a warm beer, you are going to sit there and drink it, but you probably arent going to sit there and drink a dozen of them like you otherwise would have if they were ice cold.
Im not a Geno fan boy, but they have been serving him some warm beers. |

TiOPS saying we are trying to move Eller and sign Tarasenko. I think Acciari is also being shopped.
I wonder if Roslovic, Zadina, and Yamamoto are on the radar for cheap one year deals |
