Yup, and 23 contracts with Robertson and Dewar unsigned.

Those numbers include $1.1m for Timmins, the 8th defenseman, $875k for Cade Webber, the 9th defenseman (or lower) and $875k for Matt Murray, the 3rd goalie.

Right now they have about $2.5m and have to sign Dewar - or move on from him. If Liljegren is still someone they move out, they have more.

This also assumes we don't keep Robertson around and let him rot.

Lily and Robertson are on the way out. I can feel it. Will give the Leafs an extra $4-5M.

Moving a few other scraps off the roster can add $2M+, so technically the Leafs could have almost $7M for a 3C and a 4W.

I see this so far:

Knies, Matthews, Domi
Marner, Tavares, Nylander
McMann, ????, Jarnkrok
Dewar, Kampf, ????/Reaves (when needed)

Rielly, Tanev
Beniot, McCabe
OEL, Hawkintuah

Note that the Leafs also have 40/50 contracts, so they have plenty of room to sign these guys who would also be on this roster over Webber, Timmins and Murray.

Treliving has some wiggle room here, so he hasn't boxed himself in as much as your last couple of posts are alluding to.

Very likely both Timmins and Robertson are going to be traded for picks or packaged in a small deal for a position player they can use.

Not likely, Timmins will be the 7th d man since there are some questions with Hakanpaa and if he’ll even be good to play, still some question marks regarding his health.

As for the roster they have to move guys down to the AHL to make room. 50 contracts yes but only 23 on the NHL roster.

Yes, but you're looking at capfriendly's roster numbers as accurate. The roster numbers, players and accumulated cap hit are not accurate because of who they are counting.

As for Hakanpaa? It's July and the source was Steve Simmons. Let's wait and see. It would suck to have Simmons be right about something because he's such a lying, conniving, poop disturbing piece of poop that no one believes a thing he says. He has been right before but almost everything he says is a fabrication or exaggeration designed to stir crap. Why the Leafs let him talk to their organization and why the Sun employ him are still beyond me.

If the Leafs assess a risk there, maybe there's room for Timmins afterall. But as it stands now they have Rielly - Tanev, Benoit - McCabe, Hakanpaa - OEL with Liljegren as the 7th and Timmins as the 8th.

If they did need to LTIR Hakanpaa it opens up $1.5m in space. There is room to maneuver here is all I'm saying.

What Simmons was saying was true. He missed the end of last season and didn’t get into the post season due to this injury. He didn’t get much attention as a free agent either. Multiple people reported this in the spring as well.

Benoit will be the third pairing guy this year too, he was only top 4 last season due to a lack of anything better.

Rielly Tanev
OEL McCabe
Benoit Liljegren
Timmins
Hakanpaa who might just take one of the LTIR spots.

Either way you're arguing about nothing though. They either get the 1.1 in room from Timmins or the 1.5 in room from Hankypanky LTIR. The point being there is wiggle room

That sucks. I didn’t know the injury history of Hakanpaa. I knew Tanev and OEL but not him…as I typed that I realized that could be huge trouble. All 3 dmen acquisitions have injury issues. As does Woll.

As usual people call a guy injury prone when its simply not true.

Tanev has been very healthy the last 3 seasons considering he puts his face in front of shots.

You want a stay at home D man that produces results he will miss some games here and there, its the name of the game.

Ya they both stayed healthy for sure last year. Hopefully that trend continues for the buds. I was just noting their overall careers mainly Tanevs cause I think OEL only had a couple seasons where he was banged up.
