Look, we'll end up seeing what happens. We've seen cases where a day-to-day issue turns into a far worse issue. We've also seen cases where a day-to-day issue just needs more rest than the player was willing to give the affected area and weren't giving themselves enough time to heal properly.
Day-to-day means, typically, that the team's medical staff, typically in consultation with experts, have concluded that an injury is healing and now it just depends on how long it takes to fully heal and rehab it. The human body does regenerate cartilage. There are a number of procedures in place to stimulate this and if there are problems with that there are surgical procedures, like MACI, which grow cartilage outside of the body and then replace it.
I'll be a bit surprised if this turns out to be anything more than nothingburger. - Monkeypunk
Don’t forget the question why would you replace a $3 mill guy for a $1.5 mill one.
I just won’t see him as a full time player until, and if, it happens.

I'd take Jenner but would rather go with Comtois and Clutterbuck on the wings. - Rare_Jewel
Olivier is the toughest sumbítch in the NHL.
Jenner and Kuraly play a physical game too. |

He's had a lot of bad luck as far as roster moves as well as injuries, but at least he hasn't publicly asked for a trade like Robertson, the tool. |

I wish you'd stop equating their salaries with their ability in your argument. You know it doesn't make sense. There are guys all over the league who make more than they should and guys all over the league who should make far more than what they do. Why would you play Matthew Tkachuk over Jonathan Huberdeau? Huberdeau makes $1m more and is obviously better! Draisaitl makes $2.5m less than Tavares. I know which ones I'd play.
Hakanpaa is a 3rd pairing guy all day. He's big, hits, pins and wins battles. He keeps the front of the net clean and offers very little in the way of speed or offensive ability. Insofar as I recall he's not even particularly good at zone exits with the puck (carried or through pass). His strength lies in doing things that many of our defensemen can't or won't. Being a guy that we need but don't have gets him a pretty good in from a coach that wants that.
Meanwhile we have puck carriers in Rielly, Ekman-Larsson, Liljegren and to a lesser extent (and I wish an even lesser extent than it is), McCabe. If he remains they also have Timmins. Liljegren received $3m because the arbitration process in the NHL is an embarrassment and would have given him more based on false equivalencies.
Someone in there is redundant if you need guys to protect the net, make other teams uncomfortable in your own zone and win some board battles on the wall in your own end. At $3m it could very well be Liljegren who is the odd man out.
Or, by your argument, Simon Benoit has just been replaced if Hakanpaa is healthy. I don't think that's necessarily true if he continues to play like he did last year.
But this conversation does circle back to what we were saying earlier - there are still moves to made, decisions to be made, holes to be filled and about 10 weeks before camp starts. We don't know how it's going to shakedown. |

I admire his will to never give up.
Against all odds, and everyone attacking him and slandering him. He’s still vibing with his cat through it all, and lives to fight another day. |

Recovery time on that procedure is 6-8 weeks, so he may have been super close before they lost the series.
But I agree: I think the Leafs absolutely plan on carrying 8 defensemen if they can. - gravyface
hopefully not 3 goalies either |

Don’t make the $8+ mill salaries anything like the couple mill ones… totally different.
Hakanpaa is a 32 year old post injury guy. I refuse to hand him trust. He needs to earn it.

Umm, last season ring a bell? Jones bailed us out hard.
Murray coming back is probably a long shot, but if he does, having a cup-winning veteran 3rd goalie on the cheap who's still only 30 isn't the worst thing for us. |
