Only reason I bring him Hawks lack true centers I don't think he fits the Hawks but just throwing it out there. Any other centers come to mind for you thar Hawks could acquire in a trade? |

This is nice to read about Martinez from Pope at the Sun Times. Very nice fancies from a money in the bank, solid IQ, make the right play nothing fancy kinda player. Pucks in and pucks out. https://chicago.suntimes....-golden-knights-kings-nhl
"He leads all NHL defensemen in blocked shots over the past two seasons combined with 409. He boasts tons of penalty-killing experience and should immediately become a regular on the Hawks’ units.
Analytically, he defends the defensive blue line well (allowing the second-fewest zone entries leading to scoring chances among Knights defensemen last season) and excels at getting the puck back over the blue line (leading Knights defensemen in zone exits with possession last season), per All Three Zones data". |

If KD didn’t give Bertuzzi 4 years, another team would have.
I wanted deBrusk before he got 7 x 7,
Dots wanted Matchissault, but I know not at 5 x 5 and Stamkos, but not at 4 years.
Tyler Taffoli got 4 x 6 and he is 3 years older than Bertuzzi
The one deal I didn’t like was the Brodie signing, but I now understand it because of the injury concerns on the back end. - LAHawk
Exactly, LA... In fact I'm surprised Bertuzzi had to settle for 4 yrs as a 29 yr old. Even more I thought getting TT would take at least 5 yrs and I would have done it. Really nice work by KD getting two top 6 guys with different skillsets for less term than expected and minimal to no NTC language.
I like Debrusk to an extent. I think it's too early in the process to give a kinda middle 6 guy 7 yrs. Maybe in 3-4 yrs when holes have been exactly identified and a Debrusk is given term to fill that hole but not now even though he would fit in some way...... But, if you get it wrong now, or that player is good but his skills become redundant on the roster when you have cheaper options, you're stuck with a contract with a lotta term.
As far as loading up on Dmen in FA I'm not sure there isn't a couple corresponding moves ahead. It could be as easy as allowing prospect Dmen more time in RKF or we just had to get better in our own zone, period, and more depth with the cherry on top of possibly moving one out at the TDL.

Regarding Nazar, even if he starts in rockford he won't be there long. I think he's going to hit that Brayden Point comparable. I also think Hayes is a regular by the end of the year.
- fattybeef
Was Point a comparable for Nazar predraft last yr?....... I do think Nazar is a tad more explosive but what I like about the comp is Point's IQ. I do think Nazar has that kinda IQ.
And, of all the prospects ticketed to RKF this yr I'm most intrigued by Gavin Hayes. Any 20 yr old drafted in the first couple rds (he's a 3rd rounder) playing jrs will put up numbers and Hayes did so.
Kid popped for 41 goals and 81 pts as a 19 yr old. Very impressive in just 61 games. This yr as a 20 yr old with 2 teams he put up 37 goals, 76 pts in just 55 games but even more impressive in 11 playoff games he had 7 goals and 16 pts!!
But for me it ain't the numbers that has me excited. Kid really looked the part. His poise stood out in a big way. He ran the Ozone as a winger like a Dman operating at the top of the circles dictating/reading and distributing the thing. He was in full control most times I saw him and his numbers as I posted were excellent..... And, he's a right shot.
At 6ft 1in 180ish and smooth skating he passes the eye test in a big way. We'll have to see how it goes in RKF but I'm fine with him getting a bunch of instruction/seasoning as a 1st yr pro but I don't think very good play outa him will surprise me at all.

Thanks for posting these links, Fatty. Can't remember the last time I was at FC but if they're gonna post fancy stats of NCAA and jrs players it's a must visit.
I had Demidov as BPA and Buium as the best Dman of the draft but still think the club made the right move drafting Levshunov. Enough NHL tools and traits at a valuable position and a right shot with size that when all is said and done to project him as the best Dman outa this draft....... Hawks did the right thing.
Watching with interest to see where he plays this yr.

Count me as a Stevie Y guy but man, seems like he is flailing right now and that may have even started last yr with signing at the time 28 yr old middle 6ers Copp and Compher. And now Terasenko.
Has Perron signed?

I immediately figured the not indispensable Fabbri was moved to clear salary for the.Taresenko signing
Not sure if they are unsatisfied with their goaltending depth |

Two types of NHL teams, Scott. Those with NHL centerman and those looking for them. Top 2 centers are rare players and hard to acquire be it draft, FA or trade.
The organIzation may or may not have top 2 centers in the system. I do think KD and Crew understands this drafting so may kids who might develop into being NHL centerman.........
Gonna have to be patient on this front, maybe even 3-4 yrs patient, but a good bet KD is looking inside and out of the organIzation for centerman.

The Necas deal is a big one. Canes are trying to move he AND Kotkaniemi to get a legitimate 2C somehere. - BINGO!
Good to see you poking around, Bingo......... This could just be my perception but like usual the Canes don't wanna pay, or think a player is worth, 8 mil but want a return on said player like he's a 9 million player.
Really like the way Kotkiniemi seemingly changed his game and was really physical last yr, especially in the playoffs, but forgive me for feeling joy that they are saddled with his 4.8 per for 6 more yrs. ..... Nothing wrong with missing on a player but when he's signed outa spite and doesn't develop it's a fun thing to watch. |

I think Yzerman is stuck and he didn't walk onto a team with Stamkos and Hedman already on it.

I have to admit as much as i didn't care for the Meier trade i really liked what NJ did in FA. They got all their depth back and fortunately for them the salary cap went up like it did. |

I think he's a solid hockey player but we already have one of those in D!ckinson, and i prefer D!ckinson. Besides Kotka whatever NTC kicks in next year.

Indeed they’ve done pretty well. They probably need to move out a defenseman, and they need another forward (and to re-sign Mercer with not much cap space left. |

Kotkaniemi has way under performed to his contract(6X$4.8 left). He had 27 points in 79 games last year on a good Carolina team, and 1 point in 11 playoff games. Carolina has to retain or sweeten the pot.

If Carolina wants to throw in Jarvis or Mercer the Hawks should consider Kotkaniemi.
Happy 4th to all the Americans here! Happy Thursday to all the Canadians. |
