OK, went back and listened again. I think i got the Eaton wanted him to sign through reading the transcript not listening to the interview (and i cracked a celebratory bottle of Eagle Rare for the 4th.......)

And I wasn't trying to imply that's what's going on, just was asking the question, as I just assume most guys would want to turn pro and get through their first contract if the team offered, kind the anti McGroarty situation

Its cool, some of them should be split up anyway when they arrive, maybe Greene will be a captain? Can't hurt.

- vabeachbear

For sure they wanted him to sign. I don't doubt that at all. They did the same thing with Slaggert. The put the option out there and let the kid decide. Support that decision and continue to let the kid know they believe in them and that the spot will there for them to sign.
Most do. Some just have different goals. The lost at the Frozen Four probably left him feeling like he wants another crack at it. There aren't many chances players get to win a championship, so I get wanted to give it a go again

Happy 4th to all..... Remember most animals don't dig the fireworks, especially dogs. Keep an eye on ole Fido to make sure he doesn't get loose and run into some danger.

As I cut back on mining for Hawk prospects I am going to concentrate on the strong goaltenders in the 2025 draft class. I think they will be proactive, and take one in the late first next year not waiting for a whomever falls to them in the 2nd mentality.

Wiz, you think with Commesso about to turn 22 and Gajun being 20, making them 2 yrs apart, and both being 2nd rd picks that KD would use 2nd round capital on an 18 yr old goalie next draft?

And what's going on in NSH with Askarov is beyond interesting. I'm not a fan of his style but he's a freaky athlete in the realm of Shesterkin, in fact he might be a right catching Sheterkin.

And the kid is on the market.

That might be setting a high bar for Rinzel. Just IMO, I don't think he projects to be a Norris winning #1 dman, but probably a good top 4 guy.

He's got the tool bag though, that's what is so exciting.

Before i forget 'bows, a late fourth of July 4 greeting of hope you are having one.

You wrote it and the kid Greene set on various interviews, so he will get that chance.

I think watching Anders Sorenson with press was yet another press session where the person being interviewed was able to teach many what they hope for by expecting commitment to hockey and taking a job away from a vet because you are that good in your competitions.

I think the path is essier with honest outlooks and their mouths continue being spot on.

If he wants to win he’ll leave something on the table. That also provides incentive for guys down the line to take a little less. Nothing wrong with the top players or free agents getting full or modified NMC’s, it’s when journeymen players get them there’s a problem.

Saw this on armchair gm on capfriendly.com so I thought it was interesting proposal.
Reichel and 2nd for Shane Wright. I don't think it would happen but it was interesting imo. Two young players struggling to fine their way in the NHL

4. Ryan Greene, in what sounds like a difference of opinion is going back to school as he feels it'll make him a better hockey player. (Does he see too much competition with the Hawks and will be a college FA???)

- vabeachbear

Like you, vbb, I still feel the sting of that Kevin Hayes rejection. Hayes saw the Blackhawk Cup championship personal as far to much competition and "developmental time" that he perfered playing faster for $ and NHL over getting to surround himself by pro that won.
You have to wonder if his fate would have been altered if he had been a Blackhawk, instead of twilight career he has incurred,as he currently has been pass from team to team.

Greene still has a bad taste in his mouth about losing twice in the college Final Fourso I respect that...a lot.
Does he have an ulterior motive to play closer to his St. John Newfoundland home?

(like Montreal or Boston?)

So far we have no indications that is his plan.

5. After the Dach and KK experience, I would over ripen guys every time when possible. In a couple years, there will be a massive influx of players, you want to keep that going for a few years if possible.

- vabeachbear

I think that there certainly is an interest by each and every guy they have selected in a) getting to eventually play with Bedard b) getting a chance to be part of a big rebuild/youth movement, and not just a personal advancement but a chance to be "part of something" where many are on the course to change the fortunes of an original six franchise towards a championship.

On Greene, the other thing that will eventually come into play if it isn't already is how much money these guys get in NIL money.

I understand its not as big, but some football guys are getting multi million dollar deals (Caleb Williams was 6 mil) and average basketball guys like Coleman Hawkins are getting 2 mil.

If you can get 500K or even 250K, that's more than you'll get in Rockford.

You might see guys staying in college longer, just like you are in football and basketball. This years NFL draft had the lowest amount of underclassman in like 15 years i believe.

Many players look at turning pro over college because they can make $ quicker and will possible be in the big money tax brackets quicker with the NHL closer.

I am not sure Ryan Greene feels he gets paid later, but I don't think he is plotting a departure to UFA free agency.

I really like summer.
The heat doesn't bother me,prefer it to dreadful winters.
But the one thing I don't really like is the slow hockey news of July and August
We're like 2 months away from Blackhawks training camp?

It looks like this team has no chance of making the playoffs unless some miracle happens. Wondering if the Blackhawks will make the playoffs before Bedard's ELC ends, so that leaves the 2025/2026 season?
Is that when se should expect Nazar,Moore and Levshunov to be regular players in the line up?
+ Hopefully another few quality FAs?

Mighta been you, VAbear, who said more NCAA kids end up not going to the team that drafted them than do the Russians. Indeed......... I like Greene, saw him play live a handful of times in the USHL and a bunch of streamed games. A kinda solid IQ guy who plays smoothly and has skilled hands and feet. 200 ft guy, always has been.

Him going back to BU for his junior yr is concerning to me to an extent. A reminder he hasn't signed yet and indeed, as you pointed out during the Russian conversation, some NCAA players do not play for the team who drafted them.

No deal breaker but it adds another yr of doubt as Greene gets closer to being a FA.
