Also, I remember people saying that Lavi always has his best year with a club in the 1st year. - Tonybere
Isn’t that usually how it goes for coaches. Diminishing returns |

Smith is better than both of those players - picklerick

There wasn’t anything to gaudy to go after this year imo. Maybe Guentzel. But I think Drury needs to plan ahead when Panarins deal is up and maybe go after McJesus. He’ll need every penny for that. There a ton of high end players available that off season so we’ll be in position to get some shiny things |

Listen, I don’t hate it. But to trade a 2nd and 5th for him when we could’ve maybe used that to get someone better, is a waste of assets, not to mention he had 16 pts less than when PITT traded a 3rd for him. His 13 goals last year would’ve tied him with Jimmy Vesey on the team. (I’m not saying he’s as bad as Jimmy Vesey) but more so saying he wasn’t/isn’t the answer. Even if he increases that to 15-20, we could’ve done better.
Also, I’ve heard some say to put him on the 3rd line. That likely means We got a legit first line RW and now a guy like Othmann is going to be delayed in his development. (I think Othmann needs a fair shot at playing this year or else we could have another Kravtsov on our hands.)
Seems more of a panic move by Drury rather than a thought out plan. |

Via trade - picklerick
He did lol I think the one year guy is all they want right now is kind of what I’m seeing. I think if Trouba can get traded you’ll see him and Kakko get us something |

Jones should be moved and we need to get a bigger/tougher guy for the 3rd pair. If we didn’t have Fox, Jones would be great. But Jones Lindgren and Fox are all smaller defensemen. Small defense doesn’t get you far in the playoffs as we’ve seen with recent cup winners. |

I was trying to think, not factoring in money at all
Carrick is a downgrade from Goodrow
Is Reilly smith really an upgrade from Wennberg / Roslovic? He had a down year last year and is turning 34
Gus to Jones is kind of a wash - TPC
If he's not, then we trade him at the deadline, but jesus anyone gotta be better than those guys right? Also Wennberg getting $5 for 2 years is wild. |

We know we know lol
I think Desharnais was a miss. He played well for the oilers and he’s a giant. This whole Trouba thing has them in limbo.
I think he has a trade with Grier for Trouba and Couture, and Goodrow will sway Trouba to come there. Then trade Kakko for a RHD |

While it would be awesome it would be dumb for Drury to not do stuff cause he wants McDavid or Eichel in 2 years as ufa. I give them both a very small chance of reaching |

Eichel too yea. Kaprizov. Obviously Brradman again. Conner. Robertson. It’s a who’s who of all stars that summer
Maybe he’s playing the long game 🤷🏻♂️ once Panarin 11+ is off the cap that’s when we’ll see the core change. Imo Drurys plan is further down the road (Gortons hands are still all over this team) People need patience. It’s almost like band aided right now. Dolans might be tested lol it’s really why we need to keep most/all of these prospects. It really sucks Kakko hasn’t arrived, he’s almost the missing piece or one of the few
in 2-3 years we might have the biggest team we’ve ever seen too, which would help. He’s made a conscious effort to draft bigger guys people are jizzing for. They need to develop first tho |

I think you have to drop the asset comparison. Vegas was forced to trade players because of their cap situation, and teams knew it. That’s why Smith was traded for a third. It’s not an apples to apples comparison. |

Yep the rangers wanted Pittsburg to retain 25% of the cap, that’s why it cost a 2nd. That wasn’t the case when Pitt traded for him originally |

So a player with 13 goals is now worth a 2nd and 5th? Even with retention? Drury panicked and it showed. |

I mean you look at his 82 game pace and he scored 20+ for the last six seasons before that. And yes retention costs capital. |

His 82 game pace would bring him to a grand total of 14. Could part of his decline be his age? Early 30’s we start to see most guys decline, turning 34 before the playoffs this year. Again, think this was a panic move and not a thought out one. Just my opinion though. |

I’m not impressed by or worried about that. The caps got a lot better though - picklerick
Agreed, the Caps and Devils make the playoffs next year, that means a team will fall out, there is always a surprise team that makes it. Maybe the Wings. I think Tampa and or the Islanders dont make it. |

I would say going into next year the roster might be slightly better to start the year. No where they need to be yet. I just don’t expect panarin to have another 120 point year. Tro might dip as well. Hoping bounce back from zib and continued Laf progression.
It’s going to be important for Berard Othmann Edstom making a leap. And will they trade someone who is a net negative to add a productive player. - nyrangers2
Im also hoping for KK show some drastic improvement from last year. Smith IMO is a much better player than Wheeler. 105 points is very possible. |
