Flyers project him as a center absolutely. Playmaking ability, dogged back checking and skating ability, he by many accounts is the hardest working player on the ice shift in and out.

Which is great. I hope he is a top tier 3C or a decent 2C for a long time with this team.

You should focus on my comments. My expectation and the goal for the Flyers that I want and have repeatedly stated, is for them to become a legit cup contender. Carolina has been a legit cup contender for a number of years.

Exactly.
Every season, there are 7-10 teams that legitimately have a shot at the Cup. So, at best, a contender has about a 14% chance of success. It’s a GM’s job to build a team that can contend for the Cup. To actually win it also takes some luck.

At #13. I don’t really have a problem in a vacuum drafting this type of player. Especially one that has elite skating ability. He has an elite trait, good enough I’ve relaxed. I was very high on Buium and was upset initially but he was what the 6th defenseman off the board? He dropped for some reason, 12 teams passed on him in just wondering what scared these teams away from him that we’re all not privy to

This goes back to previous posts you have made about GMs.

Also being a contender and never a winner means failure.

One interesting thing is that Luchanko was 3 weeks away from being in NEXT years draft so in a lot of ways they got him very early. There is a a real chance he can make a much bigger leap in play than we may be giving him credit for.

I still would have rather had Buium, but we have Luchanko so lets hope they know what they are doing.

yeah, I guess. So does that mean 31 GMs need to be fired every year?

Maybe, but have you seen the physique of the kid? Some actually mention it as a drawback that maybe he is closer to his ceiling than other prospects because he has a very developed body while playing against many that aren’t nearly that far along yet in their physique. It’s an interesting angle to be aware of

It's also been said that since he 17, he probably has more room to grow

Here is the thing. The best any GM can do is create a team that has a chance to win the cup. At some point it is up to the players to bring it home.

No one here can say this organization as it is constructed now has any shot of even being near building a window to contention let alone opening that window.

They need to start adding those pieces through the draft and except for Michkov, who they lucked in to, there is no one else.

San Jose already has Will Smith and Celebrini for a decade. Chicago already has Bedard and Levshunov. Anahiem has Gauthier, Carlsson, McTavish. even Zegras. IMO they are all already ahead of the Flyers in their quest to become relevant again. Sure you can say we don't know if those players are going to pan out, but if you tell me you would rather not have all those players mentioned over what we have you are lying.

After a 3 to 5 year window teams need to gut check, why have they, because of a poor GM, coaching or ID the players as a group can't get it done.

If the Panthers failed to win the cup 2 years in a row, maybe you move on.

The cutter situation really set us back. If he was still in the plans we’d all have a much more hopeful outlook. It’s only one player but we’d all be more excited about players like Bonk and Jett if we knew we had Michkov and Cutter.

I’m mad at both the team and cutter. why can’t we have nice things!?

That is fine. But when will the Flyers even start to hire an architect to design the window? Thier window wont be ever built let alone opened with the team they have on the ice and the prospects they have in the system.

His dedication to fitness is a huge selling point. He’s younger and arguably in better shape than guys above him. Its a hard thing to instill in young players who want to make millions based off raw skill

Agreed, and I imagine they would have picked Buium if it all shook out the same and Gauthier was still in the system.

I get it and I agree he would be. Put him on the ice with Michkov and he would get multiple good looks every shift.

But as I said, I don't think Torts would want anything to do with Laine and visa versa. I cant see it working out because Torts is notorious for not "making it work".

- MBFlyerfan

We need all players Torts has had but hated. Ryan Johansson and Patrick Laine.

Laine has a ten team no trade list. I would bet money its 9 teams and whatever team Torts is coaching

I disagree. It is unfair and unreasonable to place a bench mark for success or failure of winning the Cup

Chances are pretty good that SJ is in the running for first overall pick in 2025.

The Panthers would be stupid to move on if they didn't win it this year. Should Edmonton move on?
