Why? - TC4145
We didn't score enough last year and got rid of scoring to replace with 2 lines of 4th liners basically. I think it would be extremely lucky to sneak into 8th. Would need career years and no injuries.
Maybe I should ask, why do you think what was added this offseason makes us significantly better? |

So he went from doing nothing to.... panicking? So from June 27 to July 5th, people kill him for not doing anything because other teams were shuffling around their bottom 6. He then makes a move that *might* be an overpayment, and it is... panic? The narratives never cease to amaze. Panicking would have been selling Eichel for 50 cents on the dollar. - Slump Buster
I never said it was a panic trade
I dont think he got great value for the pieces he traded but I was on the overpay to get your needs train so yea. If McLeod is the 30-40 point defensive 3c bringing speed and forechecking we needed desperately then OK |

Wow. Just wow. Overpayment? sure, maybe. Indefensible? That's hilarious. Selling Ray Shepard for $1 is indefensible, regardless of whatever issues he may have had off of the ice.
He was ready to make the jump? How can you even begin to say that. He played a handful of games of pro hockey 2 years ago. - Slump Buster
Just so you know, every talking head in the league has called this an overpay. Beck isn't close either, just less impactful as 2nd rounders take a lot longer and have a much lower hit chance.
That being said, Savoie was about to play in the AHL or NHL. We basically developed him to never even get a chance. He had 5pts in 6 games in the AHL, it isn't unreasonable to think he was ready or very close to it, especially with a very shallow lineup like ours. You should expect to see him in EDM gear soon. |

Does a top6 forward addition even get this team in?
Matt Larkin on the most recent trade:
"In a recent appearance on NHL Network Radio on SiriusXM, Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin discussed his opinion on the move and did not hold back.
"I think this is a crazy sell-low by Buffalo, and I think it’s been an absolutely horrific offseason for Kevyn Adams. I think this is the definition of a panic trade."
Larkin also added: "It doesn’t compute. This trade does not make any sense to me. It’s not like Savoie is 23 years old, and they’ve given him so many chances, and they’re giving up on him. It’s so early in his career, and he was only drafted a couple of years ago."" - QuinnFan
And there are plenty of "experts" who like the trade.
They had a huge gap at 3C and filled it. |

Beck - Buff36
A 15-20pt hitter is going to save us? Seems like a big ask. Let's keep in mind WSH wasn't even going to qualify him. We paid a 2nd as we knew he was unlikely to sign here and we could extend the QO. |

Best I've heard is they like the Sabres getting a 3C, not sure I've seen anyone praising the price paid. |

His analytics check out.
He also played with some garbage linemates at times with the Oilers
When he was given a shot with real talent. He would get points.
Hypathically he plays with zucker and benson. He should be okay and produce 30-40 points |

Yeah, I can't believe he's still here. It's just sad our next GM isn't going to have all these trade chips at his disposal. Hopefully this is the last trade he makes cuz you're 100% right, they're basically banking on career years again. - QuinnFan
Whats to say the next Gm is better than Adams? Iv seen some really bad gm’s get recycled. Also hes traded ONE top prospect.
Adams screwed up last offseason. After seeing how the season turned out thats a fact. But looks like he learned a thing or two.
Hired a good coach
Better balance drafting
Upgrading the weaknesses of the team
Maybe not sitting and waiting for the prospects.
Id rather have a gm that learned from his mistakes and a retread stuck in 2002.

A lot of these pundits seem to determine the value of a trade by logging into EA NHL and seeing if they can make the same deal.
1-You can’t trade Mitts for Byram (Colorado declines).
2-Savoie for McLeod and Tullio, obviously Edm accepts. That said, we have a lot of Savoie-like players.
The more I look at it, I wish we got more for Savoie, but who knows the real story.
I have a hard time believing Zegras is a Lindy guy. I’d assume Benson would have to go the other way. Not sure I like that idea.
Nobody gives a frank about my opinion anyway lol |

Yeah, I think that's exactly what happened. He thought guys like Stamkos or Necas or Ehlers would entertain signing here. They weren't. From there, he basically started offering the farm to anyone willing to part with anything. I mean, it is accurate to say he overpaid on both trades this summer right? - QuinnFan
Are you serious? While he may have inquired about some of them, there is no way that he banked his offseason on any of those players.
Also, can you name the other top 6 forwards that have moved this offseason? The moves have shaken out in a predictable way: the 4th line filled out because those guys are most plentiful. The 3rd line followed. The entire league is waiting for the logjam at top 6 to break up. Everyone in the league is looking for top 6 help. If the numerous reports out there are true, Adams is still working to fill out that last major hole. And it really isn't even necessarily a hole - we could bring up Kulich and put him there if we want to. We have options, but given what happened the last 2 years, I think we want it to be as close to a sure thing as possible.

Faster, rid of all the anchors, a number one goaltender, proven coach, a team that could have an identity and play with purpose. I have a sense that this team is rid of the floaters.
I know nothing but until there is an issue I refuse to look at this off season as a fail when the league has not opened training camps. Just refuse to be negative and I am more positive based on the thoughts I gave. |

If you believe the “insiders” Sabres supposed shopped Savoie all off season. Teams wanted other prospects instead of him.
He’s been left off of a WJ team multiple times.
Things are not adding up when the math is done.
Small winger with injury history who is one dimensional is not a huge sell. |

See how everyone is jumping on Quinn because he thinks it was a Overpayment. Just because the Sabres needed a 3C, doesn't make it not a Overpayment. We got a piece that will hopefully help us, but it shouldn't have taken Savoie. |

Just messing around at lunch and decided to look at some other rosters.
Florida: Success has forced them to lose some pieces, most notably the guy that is arguably their best D. The bottom of their roster is filled with what can best be describe as warm bodies. https://www.capfriendly.com/depth-charts/panthers
Boston: Holes all over the place. They needed help at C and ended up with Lindholm as their top C. That is what desperation looks like. https://www.capfriendly.com/depth-charts/bruins
Toronto: They are improved on D, but still waaaaay too top-heavy. https://www.capfriendly.c...m/depth-charts/mapleleafs
The point of this: On paper, we are close to all of these teams right now. Everyone has a couple of holes. If we play a system (and ideally an attacking system), we will be world's better than last year. Boston's roster is fairly average, but they play as a team. Florida won because it played amazing team defense. Edmonton took off when it started playing as a team. Toronto didn't. |

He didn't say it was an overpayment, he said it was "indefensible". Everyone agrees that it was at least a little bit of an overpayment. The difference is that most are fine with that as it is what we signed up for. |

We sucked because Adams didn't take care of what he needed to take care of. As we've discussed many, many, many times, he has clearly seen the light this offseason. We should be worlds better with the addition of Ruff, some health, and a legit bottom 6 (not to mention not running EJ out there every night). Hell, an average PP will add several points.
Also, I look around the division and I see a lot of teams that either haven't improved or have taken a step back in terms of roster. - Slump Buster

I don't get why we need to keep going back to last offseason. Adams plan was to run it back, and he did.
What you keep missing is that people like me did say "wait until the offseason is over", and I stand by that. When it ended last year, I also said that he didn't do enough.
More importantly, none of this really matters until the games are played. He could go out and get Ehlers tomorrow, and it could still go south. Or he could stand pat and Kulich scores 30 on line 2.

Wrong, disagree all you want. Just remember, some also can, strangely, disagree with your assessment. 2nd for an AHLer, gross. Potential middle winger for sure thing PKing 3C, I mean it’s like alright. |

Because the things he started this year should have been started last off-season or even the 1pt season. And then you make it easier on yourself the following year on what needs you need. Just because Adams finally decided to start doing things he already should have done doesn't excuse the Sh!t work he's done the last couple years. |

If Savoie has so much more value than a 2-3rd line center entering his prime, please show the last prospect to be traded (alone, no picks included) for something more. Remember contract and age of other player is important details too. |
