I just don't buy into this, I hear it a lot, but do we really think a GM would "throw" away a talent because they were from the previous regime?

I guess you could say they have a bias for their own guys, and i get that, but talent is talent. Coaches wouldn't have the same bias, they see what's happening on the ice and are going to push for the best players.

I believe it is the case with two players that are equal, I just don't see it happening with a more talented player.

Agreed, it would take take an awfully small, stupid, petty person to do that and I’m not getting that vibe from KD. Although I guess it can be argued he is small. Conversely the idea that he will hang on to a prospect he drafted even if the prospect turns out to be a bust, is just as preposterous. So far the only questionable thing Davidson has done was making that trade with the Isles. to move up two spots in the first round, however if Boisvert was his target when he made that trade then I take the criticism back. There will be lots to judge KD on going forward namely player and cap management but so far he’s done a good job collecting and stocking talent. It’s unfortunate some fans are inventing problems about Davidson that don’t exist.

I do have a question, is Brodie better than Tinordi, Megna, Zaitsev?
- BetweenTheDots

We have 2 years to find out. If I had a choice, I would of signed Martinez for 2 years, not Brodie.

Without a doubt, however his minutes and possibly his games have to be managed. He can’t average 22 minutes a game as he did last season in Toronto.

I thought so as well. Hopefully he has some gas left in the tank. I like the move because it allows Levshunov to develop in the Rock without having a Tinordi, Megna, Zaitsev playing with Korchinski or Kaiser or maybe another surprise in camp.

I also believe this move if Murphy is healthy will take some hard minutes off of S Jones plate on the PK.

it is not the player it si the term. The second year I believe he will probably be blocking one of the young defenseman.

Arty, Kaiser, Allen, del Maestro should be far enough along in their development to start playing NHL minutes.

Barring trade, you still have Jones, Murphy, Vlasic, and Korchinski

Or maybe the front office is not as high on the young players as the Blog is?

Nah, he's not blocking anyone, he's an insurance policy. Considering Murphy is injured every year as well, there'll be plenty on playing time for the kids if they earn it.

Brodie dressed for 78 regular season games - producing 1G-25A offensively and a (+17) rating defensively. He averaged 22:00 TOI. Almost all of his ice time came at even strength and the penalty kill. He's not overly physical (41hits) but does get in the lane to block shots (159 shot blocks).
It's hard to put in words what happened to Brodie's game in the back end of the season. His detail wandered. His execution making plays with the puck was inconsistent. He simply struggled. His poor play kept him from earning a regular role in playoffs. Brodie only dressed for one game vs Boston.
2-way 'D' who's lost a step.

Expiring contract that earned him $5.0M last season. Pending UFA.

Doesn't appear much bette than Tinordi, Meygna, Zaitsev to me.

I agree. Look at some of the guys that played D last year…. Not sure some even play top minutes in the AHL.

Also don’t see KK playing mostly in the AHL unless he takes a big step backwards. He played an entire season in the NHL. Sending him to the AHL to “develop” makes little sense.

Even though Hockey Canada can make some funky roster decisions anytime I see a player has represented Canada internationally it carries a lotta weight for me........ And, remember EDM was only rostered because of injury but once on busted his way to 1st until PK and last minute of the game TOI.

Kid is a worker and the kind who will get everything out of whatever talent he has. ......... You saw EDM live in the NHL? How was his skating to your eye?

- Mr Ricochet

I thought his skating was pretty neutral, was more looking at what he did with the puck and how he broke up plays. A dman’s first couple games in the NHL are usually pretty nerve-y so I have no clue if that’s how he’d play usually. He held the puck in a couple times at the opponent blue line, which was nice. I remember during the cup years it seemed like our D were exceptional at keeping clearing attempts in the offensive zone.

Well you always have to find something to complain about, last year it was Foligno and Perry, this year Brodie. Maple Leafs are the gold standard to defense and defensive players. I always forget that.

Sorry Dots, of all the draft choices and signings KD has done, I have a problem with one. But according to you, dissent is not allowed, I can only criticize the players you don't like, especially Murphy and Jones, got it.

Criticize all you want, but at least see the player on the ice. I always give the signings a chance i complain when they play like poop, for sure.

Besides i thought Foligno and Perry played well for the team last season, how did you put it, even if they were on hospice.

Just looking at the schedule. Hawks will get their frequent flyer miles in early next season. They start with four away games at Utah and western Canada, come home for 4 games and then embark on another western trip, 5 games against Dallas, Colorado and the three California teams. then back home for a game, off to Dallas again and then back home for one more. Then two more games out west at SEA and VAN. A total of 12 away games out of their first 18.

Tuesday, just over a week after Boqvist was bought out by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets parted ways with the 23-year-old blueliner as he was set to enter the final season of his three-year, $7.8 million deal

Best case scenario, they put him on waivers, but considering Martinez is only signed for 1 year, it's really no big deal. Last i remember it's a 23 man roster

It will be interesting to see what happens to Phillips since is no longer exempt from waivers. KD says the prospects have to earn a position, but will he stay on the parent club if not earned, instead of risk losing him for nothing if sent down?

would the emergency call uo rule protect him some?

Taige Harding, big size dman from Providence, was at the rookies off ice July camp. He could start in ECHL and move up. Also there are two minor league level dmen who have played two years in Rockford. I expect KD will move one of the current group this summer shortly into the season

Trying to resurrect Bovquist, like the Panthers did OEL, Montour, Forsling, and Kulikov.

Well first he would have to have cleared waivers to be sent down. Also the emergency call-up rule only could come into effect if the team has no cap space, among others, and the Hawks definitely have cap space.
