Kampf is not getting pushed to the 4th line, he is the 4th line because he failed miserably on the 3rd line at the beginning of last season.
I honestly am not expecting much more to happen. The guys leaf fans want to move on from will be costly to move imo. - Dozzer
Kampf is a perfect 4th line player and will be out late in games protecting a lead and on the 1st PK unit. He’s marginally overpaid for the role but it’s an important role. |

It does get exhausting. I try to stay positive in light of the fact the Leafs will do nothing until it's too later.
But even trying to do that, when you post an player suggestion, anything in the "run it back" playbook of cheap and poopty.....most of the poster piss on it as though they've got options.
These boards are like ugly drunk guys at 2a talking trash about the couple of girls left at the bar....like there's a fuking choice at this point?!?! - underhill14

He’s good, absolutely, but makes about $750-$800K too much. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not unhappy he’s likely going to remain a leaf however, he plays his role extremely well. |

Kampf is a 19 - 27 pt 4th line center vet who kills penalties. With the cap increasing, 2.4m million per is/will be about what he should be paid.
Id like a little less, but its the leafs .......overpaying is what we do. |

Kampf isn't the problem and moving him is not the solution. Agree that's he's mildly expensive for what he does, but the focus shouldn't be on moving guys like him.
We all know JT is the weak link, but he's not going anywhere unless Tree drops peyote and channels his inner Briesbois.
This season will be JT's last on a big contract. His contract coming off the books plus the cap increase will change the calculus. |

No it’s not. I was just looking it up and only Edmonton paid anywhere near that (well over Kampf at $3 mill actually)
But here’s the fourth line C for the last 4 teams
Florida:
Nosek @ $775K
Edmonton:
Henrique @ $3million
NY:
Carrick @ $1million
Dallas:
Steel @ $1.2million |

Cup winner Bennett in 69 games had 41P = 0.594PPG
JT in 80 games had 65P = 0.813PPG
He’s nothing more than a vet on the final year of his big contract. He’s no “weak link” at all tho |

Would Tyler Johnson on a cheap deal help? He put up 31 pts (17G) in 67 games last year playing with absolute pylons on the Hawks.
He's already made a ton of money considering his contributions, and stated he wanted to be on a playoff team. At 33 years old, not a horrible idea.
No idea what kind of roster/cap gymnastics would need to be done to fit him in though. |

He's 5'8". And he's been a passenger for a long time, even with Tampa Bay.
I think the Leafs are good for soft / skill players in the top-six and no need for them in the bottom-six.
If the Leafs are going to add cheap, veterans to the line-up I'd rather sign Blake Wheeler for the same price and production and have the added benefit of adding another big body. |

Absolutely not.
But if it's a 1 year deal, 1 AAV or less, I'd rather Wheeler than Johnson. Or JVR.
That's my basic point. If the Leafs are gonna fill the line-up with cheap veterans, I'd rather go with the guy who is 6'3" - 6'5" than 5'8".
I could still see usefulness to JVR / Wheeler on the PP2 with passing and size. I don't see any use for Johnson at his size and age. |

not sure it exists, but Id like a Benoit version of a 4th liner. WIth some potential upside. Not a broken old man who makes Andreychuk look fast at this point |

JVR, Wheeler, Tanner Pearson, Mike Hoffman; all better options than Johnson.
All probably the same price too. |
