Friedman has repeatedly said it would require a team approaching TOR with a package first and then asking Marner to waive. Not the other way around with shopping him.

Can anyone propose one plausible trade with Vegas? They have no cap space. So what contracts go the other way to make this work for Vegas? Pay attention to how many Vegas players have NMCs and NTCs. Makes no sense to me. But I have no Leafs sources.

I don't understand the obsession with trading Marner. Extend him, Tavares' contract comes off the books at the end of the season freeing up $11 million. Core 4 becomes Core 3 and the Leafs can focus on filling out the team.

Nobody can say anything for sure!! If MM wants to take a haircut then the Leafs have a different view than if he want AM34 money. If the Leafs want to keep him and another team offer an outrageous package and MM wants out, he goes! Nobody knows the situation, not even the Leafs, until it presents itself. Anything is possible, until it isn’t.

Impossible to predict. Anything can happen. Prospects, picks, 3rd team involvement, salary retained, NTC waived. Bottom line, if all involved want it to happen or stumble upon something that works for everyone, they will find a way.

You can get much better value for the $13mil MM will want. Playoff performers. MM has zero grit for playoffs, zero. You can’t win in playoffs with 3 guys making $38mil and zero grit between them.

It would be idiotic re-signing Marner to a deal worth more than he's already making. If they can't orchestrate a trade (nigh-impossible at this point), they should absolutely let him walk and see if they can entice Drysaddle or Rants - read: guys who are actually better players than Mitch AND have had significant playoff performances.

I think it is pretty simple. Marner's history has been to ask for "more contract" - don't expect that to change. The only meaningful comparison for Marner is Kucherov - who makes currently 1.5 less. The idea of Marner asking for meaningful raise is ridiculous. He hasn't hit 100 points consistently - and the powerplay which he is the quarterback icraps the bed down every stretch and disappears in the playoffs.

That’s exactly my point. The parent company is using their media platforms (TSN and The a Score/Sportnet) to put out stories advocating why MM should go….meanwhile the GM of the TML who is also an employee of this parent company is not necessarily saying the same thing. It’s such a convoluted poop show of mixed messaging right now.
