I don't think any functional GM can really operate that way. It's not just Shesterkin and Lafreniere that need contracts next offseason. Miller/Jones/Cuyelle/Edstrom/Rempe/Kakko (if he's still around) all will need contracts too.

The cap will rise, but not enough to cover even close to all of those deals.

So the only way the Rangers will be able to sign Igor and Laffy is to buy out Trouba and hope the Cap goes up??

they don't have the luxury of paying a 4th line center 3.6 mil per season and found a way out of it
