Nope I would have never signed him in the first place.
- Brukie

They needed a big time scorer. You could argue they should have done a full rebuild but all in all he has been a huge success as am FA. He still put up 15 points in 16 games on a down year this past PO

So what did you want? Keep Goodrow and be in a cap crunch next year so we can’t sign Laf and Igor, or get out from Goodrow’s contract so we have the $ to sign Laf and Igor?

You can’t have your cake and eat it too…

Because a roster loaded with top heavy contracts just doesnt work. Something will have to give in order to get this team to win a Cup.

As built now this team will not win the Cup within this window they have now.

Florida had Tkachuk, Barkov and Ekblad's contracts and 14.5 million tied up in their goaltending

Can we get your thoughts on the Oilers and Panthers cap situations, please? Do you think they’re both cup contenders?

They didnt need a big name scorer at the time, it was a rebuild.

Doesnt matter now, too late for that debate but most of his points were on the PP, his last goal he scored was when the playoffs were over.

Did you think he has had a good playoff run, ever? No defense, no back checking, lazy skating. He accumulates his points on the PP, then goes dry when the PP is stifled.

I'd take Tkachuk and Barkov over Panarin any day of the week.

fans of 31 teams right now want to trade all their players and fire all their GMs
- jimbro83

He’s not the type of player I think we need. Making almost $12 million and he’s a disappearing act come playoffs.

Well the does the Panthers Cap situation really matter? They just won the Cup but both are Cup favorites for next year. Oilers have had a great off season.

Sorry to everyone for beating this dead horse.

They tore it down, had high draft picks and promise from those selections. Then they signed a big free agent. That’s the definition of a rebuild. Just because it was quick doesn’t mean it wasn’t a rebuild.

Now, if you want to be upset with the players they brought in, fine. But the you can’t rewrite history because you don’t like a player involved in the rebuild.

And they both have top heavy cap situations. You’re talking in circles here Brukie

Listen, I’m not trying to start the whole “PP Pts don’t matter thing” over again. But he’s invisible 5v5 in the playoffs.

- jimbro83

Well I tell you what they can do now to make the team better, PRAY, HOPE whatever you are into, maybe your brothers JuJu to have some of the Rookies make the roster better and lift up these sagging, under achieving veterans come playoff time.

There is no other way. Its not the regular season thats the problem, its the playoff performances.

It’s not a perfect comp, but all it took was one playoffs for Ovie to figure it out. That’s all it takes…one good playoffs and we’d forget that he was invisible up that point.

You completely missed the point, do you want to keep a guy who shows up in the Playoffs or not?? He produced from the bottom six in the line up, which is what you want in the playoffs. This is the main reason the Rangers signed him in the first place. I didnt complain about the 3. I just posted their goals scored in the playoffs compared to his.
- Brukie

I'm missing the point!!?!

Tell me what you would have done this offseason. Lay out your game plan knowing what we all know with Laf, Shesty, and other contracts coming due. How would you have operated this off season if you were Drury? Would you have kept Goodrow?

And you can't say you would've traded any of Panarin, Kreider, or Zib being that they have NMC's and it's simply not realistic. This was the only move we could make to free up cap space. I am genuinely surprised people are upset about it

This.

I actually made this comparison a while ago. How many at bats did Ovie get? A ton. And he only won one. But all you need is for one postseason to go right. We are not far off IMO

Every team is up to or close to the Cap, Winning the Cup is the prize, Panthers won and will still be strong next season, Oilers added some nice pieces and will most likely make another long run.

Whats your (frank)ing point? Both teams have been more successful than the Rangers and the Oilers are now definitely a stronger team than the Rangers are on paper.

They will keep majority of those players. Trouba will not be here next year and some other moves will be made
- nyrangers2

I wasn't implying they were going to lose any of them. Just that no GM is "kicking the can down the road" until next year. They have some major contracts to sign and whatever they do now will be with an eye on the future.

The same people that were attaching picks to trade him are the same angry he's gone. Mind blowing
