Why does Torts have to communicate with the media or anyone else about who he scratches? When was this ever a thing for any coach? - roenick97
He has an obligation to the fans to confirm his reasoning when he benches the captain of the team. He full on ducked the media for four days after benching Couturier. A guy that preaches accountability sure doesn't seem to be accountable.
Torts was right to bench him. He was beyond wrong in the way he handled it. |

I honestly like Charlie and he usually knows what is going on w the club. I wouldn't say he is manipulated by him. Not speaking for him but I think when he posts others thoughts from blogs he is trying to just demonstrate what others are saying and hearing. I could be totally wrong tho... - Flyfly
No, you are spot on. If I read an article or see a segment like this that I think other, open-minded, Flyers fan would enjoy, I like to share it with you all. As typical with MJL, he is not here to talk hockey, he is only here to insult and cause conflict. |

It's a familiar pattern and it's clear to me where he gets his opinions from. Often parroting what he hears a GM coach or some other info from an article, blog, podcast or online video.

you are 100% correct, couldn't have said it better! I have backed Torts quite a bit as you know, but I could not get behind his actions at the end of last season, and I feel he is the primary reason this team failed down the stretch. I wonder if things start poorly next season if Torts loses the room because of these actions. |

I agree except for he was right to bench him. Not for why he did it.

One can only hope. The sooner Tortorella is gone, the better.

Just another example, I bring content and hockey discussion to this forum, you bring conflict and insults. You prove my point every single day! You add no value. - jd250
it's truly astonishing the lengths he will go to be disagreeable simply because of who is posting it. |

Unlike you that decides for example that Briere and Jones will fail miserably, even before they completed their first day in their new roles, I like to get as much information as I can so I can have an informed opinion. Like I said, its posts like this that just continue to prove my point. I mean, how can you come on this forum and act like you are the most informed person in the room when you crap on every single source of information that is out there? Every writer, every employee, every article, every podcast, etc. etc. Unless you are employed by the Flyers, which clearly you are not, though I know you wear Flyers footy pajamas, you really must be the least informed person on this forum. |

I get it. I like to listen to a lot of the local guys as well. Charlie is articulate and often has a lot of interesting points. A lot of times I try and form my own opinions but take into consideration what others are saying. Where you and I differ is the "rebuild." To me it is a retool on the fly and they are going to have to thread the needle and have a lot of luck for this to work. I hope it works but I am not confident right now nor the past decade. Feels like more of the same but time will ultimately be the judge.
I don't think anyone is wrong w having their own opinion. We can all disagree but at the end of the day we cant do anything about it. It's like being a fan of any other team. Sometimes you feel confident about the way things are going and sometimes you just want to scream b/c they make bad decisions. Over the years the Flyers have rarely made the right decisions.

Much of your post here is not hockey related. Which makes you a hypocrite. Your opinions don't seem to be very informed as they are often lacking any basis in fact nor show any sign of having any knowledge or insight behind them. You have a forum here to try and show how uninformed I am. Good luck with that.

Very true! There is a saying, you don't pick your family. Well, I guess you don't pick your hockey teams either. I feel at this stage in my life I am a Flyers fan for life, no matter what they do. Its frustrating though, especially now.
A lot of things in this segment resonated with me. First I am disappointed more was not done this off-season to move this rebuild forward. Yes having Michkov here will be great, but nothing else was done. That is astoonishing to me. Second, it is true that when we here silence that is the time Briere strikes. Its possible something is in the works and we will not know about it until it happens. That is how it was with Guathier fror example. Thirdly, since nothing was done his off-season to move the rebuild forward, it just doesn't make sense to extend TK, and finally, the similarity with the Hextall years.
As far as rebuild versus retool, if Briere does not do everything he can to get a top 5 pick in the next draft, then clearly its not a rebuild, its a retool.

"you really must be the least informed person on this forum.

This I can’t argue. My memory tells me people are mad because he was scratched as captain of the Flyers. I don’t subscribe to that mindset. |

I think there was a lot of opportunity to get into the top 5 this offseason. Like you I am disappointed that they seemed to have just pushed everything to next season. And again, there could be more moves but it seems like DB is done for the time being. They seem to be going all in on the next draft. It's great we have all those picks but unless they get crazy lucky they aren't getting into the top 5. I also think trying to use those picks to tade up is not going to get it done. In a very good draft I have to think teams won't be trading those picks unless it is a gross overpay.

The "rebuild" is complete in their eyes. They've acquired future picks. They want to be competitive this season, why else make the signings that they have and will make. If they get a top pick next season, it won't be due to a solid plan and execution of that plan. It will be due to luck and incompetence. Just like they lucked into the 5th overall pick. Then proceeded to screw that up. Jones gave the plan away. The timeline is when the cap clears up and they have to decisions to make and they have to get them right. There is no doubt that they will escalate and go right back to the same approach that they had when Fletcher was the GM. No doubt about it. They think they have the right approach but just have to do it better. They will be right back into the same endless circle of incompetence.

Looking at the past can predict the future. And right now the future is more of the same - just as you said. I just think it is going to take a lot of luck to get it right. Something the Flyers always seem to be short of outside of MM falling in their laps.

Torts is the HC - ultimately it his responsibility. Here is a word that Torts loves: ACCOUNTABILITY. As long as he does not have to be accountable. |

To be fair if you’re gonna scratch your captain (which nobody ever does, it’s a unwritten rule that almost never happens) yeah you better speak to media and fans of why you did |

Totally disagree with last part…. You don’t bench your captain. Ever. End of story. I don’t care how crappy he is playing. He lost the room the minute he scratched coots |
