I kinda almost sort of agree here.

I don't care how nice JT the person is, or what he is like in the locker room, the dude has been making serious bank to be mediocre. He's just good enough in the regular season to keep his stat sheet looking relatively respectable, but wins nothing. No hardware.

A 13-year old girl has more hardware than this guy and gets paid a lot less to do it.

He was biggest FA in years....got less than what was offered elsewhere and has played well for most of the contract. We all knew the last years he wouldnt live up to 11m sheets, but we were suppose to have a cup or at least a couple cup runs by now. But then dubas overpaid Matthews and Marner......and oh ya some pandemic hit. Either way, this core just doesnt seem like a Stanley cup core.

It was a terrible comparison about how much hardware JT has won versus how many trophies an average 13 year old girl has. Cheerleading, school athletics, karate lessons, spelling bee, bowling, whatever.

However, upon Googling it, I noticed that he has olympic medals, so that kinda kills my own dumb joke. Not too many 13 year olds have medaled in the olympics.

But, for NHL hardware, the dude has zero.

I'm just a Leafs fan who happens to be knowledgeable about a division opponent.

FWIW, I'll trade my Rob Zamuner signed Lightning third jersey for a signed Leafs jersey. Preferably signed by the legendary Phaneuf, or Kessel, or Tucker or Clark.

The last two are my favorite blue and white players for obvious reasons.

When signing a UFA it's a challenge to estimate the player's value now vs. their value at the end of the deal and then trying to find a balance that still presents you as the favourite to land the player.

In the 5 years prior to JT signing with Toronto he was a top-10 player in the league in most offensive categories - 3rd in goals (tied with Crosby behind only Seguin and Ovechkin), 19th in assists, 7th in points, 7th in P/G, 6th in EVG and 7th in PPG. The only real knock you might have for a guy with those metrics was that he was 21st in GWG, so he didn't come across as particularly clutch.

In the 6 years since joining the Leafs, he's 18th in goals, 37th in assists, 25th in points, 35th in P/G, 21st in EVG and 16th PPG. He's 16th in GWG.

I can't say as he ever lived up to the contract, but he was going to get paid that money by someone.
