so this is why you think EJ was re-sgined? - hello it's me 2050
Go figure, MJL is a sour puss about a nice story of a vet reaching out to a rookie an offering assistance in any way he can.
Should EJ have been resigned, no, but he was, now move on and stop belly aching about it.
EJ either on his own or told by his agent to, reached out to MM and offered assistance.
MM will be hanging with Zamula and Fedotov who are both newish to the league. EJ was was just offering to help if MM had any questions.
Also EJ is not blocking anyone. Who of the starting six was goin to sit if on of teh Phantoms D was going to be called up? |

Like Nick Schultz... played here for just a couple of seasons and change... now on his 5th-year in the front office and up to Asst. Director of Player Dev.
Once you're anointed a "true Flyer" you've got your ticket on the gravy train. - Tomahawk
It's very possible that Torts retires from coaching after this year and is running the Flyers FO within the next 5 years.

a 19 yr old russian who doesn't speak english is going to be hanging out with a 36 yr old american who doesn't speak russian?
Is this one of those wacky comedies where they bond through miscommunication? Michkov hits him up to go the club but he's already in bed? - Flyers_01
The really weird part is that Zamula forgot how to speak Russian and only speaks English now. |

You don’t have to wait for that article about how great a mentor EJ is. I just read it in the Inqy. To be fair he does sound like a great guy, but it seems odd that it’s such a fringe player that has taken the initiative to reached out to Michkov. Here’s a quote from the article; “ That is not the only connection. Although he didn’t have to experience a new language, food, or rules, the grizzled veteran has been in Michkov’s shoes as a 19-year-old skating in the NHL.
“I’m here for him any way he needs and helping him acclimate to Philly, to the NHL,” said Johnson, a defenseman who was selected first overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2006 NHL draft.
“Whether he needs a ride or needs recommendations on where to eat on the road, has questions about how practice is run, how things are going on with meetings, schedule, all that, he knows that I’m here for him to answer any questions and I’m excited to work with him.” - Dkos
You see! EJ has already earned his $1M |

nah dont see it. I dont even think he ends up "upstairs".
torts loves the spotlight. can't see him taking a behind the scenes no publicity advisor role. he will get an ext or go back to TV imo.

Yup. A "Senior Advisor" looming over the entire thing, like Clarke. |

I think Torts retires after this season and that is part of the plan. Flyers already have a list of people who they want to interview for the coaching job.

Nick Schultz fell off hard in the second year of the two year extension Hextall gave gim, only playing 28 games at age 34 in 2016-17.
Something to look forward to with Nick Seeler. |

Bob Clarke is free to spout off any time he wants in front of a camera or mic, and he has.
It'll be the same for Torts, except even more media folks will be trying to get spicy sound bites out of him on the regular. |

Okay, is Erik Johnson the only player that can do that for Michkov? My point is that in my opinion, none of that justifies the re-signing of Johnson. - MJL
It's strange to think that when hear or read "vet" it has to do with age. I consider guys like Konecny and even the likes of Ristolainen who are in their mid to late 20's as vets. |

He should not have been resigned. His spot as a 7 should be reserved for risto. The 3rd pairing should be a merit based platoon amongst zamula/ginning/attard/andrae.
It’s a stupid, unnecessary signing - Just5

“In his last year in Columbus, he wanted to move into management and move out of coaching, and (former Blue Jackets GM Jarmo) Kekalainen wanted nothing to do with that,” MacLean added. “He wanted him to coach, and at the end of the day it was a mutual parting of the ways.”
He left his last job and remained unemployed until the Flyers came knocking because they rebuffed his attempts to move upstairs. I can't imagine the Flyers weren't aware of that and weren't discussions when they hired him.

Has been in steady decline since before the Flyers acquired him. Once the physical tools start to decline. The complete lack of hockey sense and savvy is magnified. It's amazing that umpteen fans including you and I knew it was a bad trade the day it was made. |
