Just saw that. I guess there's more money playing in Russia, but I think I'd rather go to Sweden or Switzerland - Dkos
If for nothing more than the language issue. Im sure many people speak English in Russia, but in Sweden and Switzerland they all speak English, and better than many Americans lol.

I feel like they have never fully adapted to cap era thinking when it comes to roster building. - MBFlyerfan
They really have not adapted. They really had one goodish run from 08-12. Since 2012 they have been a bottom five franchise.

When I think of the KHL I flash back to that plane crash that killed Brad McCrimmon and that episode of Real Sports about it. Things have probably improved since then, but |

I almost forgot Risto played for the Flyers. Thanks for reminding me, jerk.

lol
I am not happy about this mess but they have to play RR to get at least a sniff of a trade for him no matter how unlikely it would be. I am afraid they are stuck with RR for at least 2 more years

The KHL will now run independently from the Russian Hockey Federation. This could mean less red tape for Russian players to go through to come to the NHL |

Holmgren left the cap a smoking crater and prospect pool a barren wasteland for Hextall but hey, they had a few decent years where they "went for it, damn the cap consequences that's the next GMs problem" years.

They have just gotten less and less relevant every year since 2012.

I don't know if this is part of why they re-signed him but there are plenty of other players on the team who could do that. I don't see it having anything to do with what kind of guy he is. It was a bad and unnecessary signing in my opinion. - MJL
Let’s hope that wasn’t the reason they signed him. |

Gauthier wanted to play for the Flyers down the stretch after his NCAA season ended in 23. That is not basically burning his first year of his ELC in college. It takes 10 games played to burn a year of a ELC. This is not different from what every other high profile NCAA player wants and gets. A smart GM would've given it to him. The Flyers weren't smart. They were stupid.
If that's the real reason why the Flyers passed on Buium, they were stupid again.
- MJL
Are you sure he didn't burn his first year with the ducks, it say his contract over in 2 seasons.
I could be wrong |

I know 10 games or less makes you eligible for the Calder trophy.

Not true. If the player starts with the team out of training camp, the team has 9 games to see if he fits, before the elc kicks in , regardless of if he is sent down after say 11 games.
The difference here is that a player joining the team at seasons end just needs to play in 1 game to activate the elc.
Gauthier played in the Ducks' game 82. He burnt the first year of his elc by doing that.

Go figure, MJL is a sour puss about a nice story of a vet reaching out to a rookie an offering assistance in any way he can.
Should EJ have been resigned, no, but he was, now move on and stop belly aching about it.
EJ either on his own or told by his agent to, reached out to MM and offered assistance.
MM will be hanging with Zamula and Fedotov who are both newish to the league. EJ was was just offering to help if MM had any questions.
Also EJ is not blocking anyone. Who of the starting six was goin to sit if on of teh Phantoms D was going to be called up? - WhiskeyMan
I would play Ginning all day long before EJ. I get it RJ is going to watch more than play but the flyers already have mentor type of guys.

Kind of. On defense, when you have a handful of promising young guys that could use a former high 1st rounder with a cup ring defenseman on the squad. For on ice stuff I’m not sure how much coots is going to help guys like York or Drysdale |

It's partially true. Normally, it depends on how old the player is. If he is 18 or 19 then it's 10 games. Since Gauthier was 20. It is not an accrued season though for future UFA status. My comment was related to Gauthier and the Flyers situation in 23. When Gauthier was 19. The slide rule may not apply to NCAA players at 18 or 19. Not sure. |

Was it because of a pocket of unusually high denseness where you were sitting that made the vessel list?
Kidding, kidding ...
The reason why Russia has so many air crashes has been discussed for as long as I remember. Certainly last 30 odd years. I recall many suggested explanations: mostly technical. But my own theory is that the cavalier non-rule-abiding male Russian mentality is also to blame. They like to wing it (no pun intended). It is also why the gap in mortality between Russians guys and dolls is the highest in the western world.

Is that true? That is strange then. A kid who plays 9 games for a team doesn't burn his ELC. But a kid who gets traded and plays just 1 for his new team does? More games played in NHL ends up = lower salary in NHL?

They’ve been bottomed out for a while now. No chance in the playoffs even if they make them. Not bad enough for a top 5 pick. This used to be called Leafs Land. Minnesota Wild leased it for a while too. Then we hired their GM lol. Now the Flyers own it. And they almost seem proud about it for some reason. They certainly aren’t doing all the little things a team should be doing to get out of it. (Trading vets, drafting the consensus BPA, moving up in the draft for cornerstone prospects, etc. )
Hell, they wouldn’t even have Michkov right now if not for stupid picks by the two teams ahead of them in last year’s draft and the kid being a Russian. And he wouldn’t even be here this year if his dad hadn’t died. They fell ass backwards into Michkov the same way they did with Giroux. |

Yeah, flying on Russian aircraft is a kind of roulette. They have aging aircraft and don’t allocate enough money for safety.
Their design criteria and certifications aren’t up to western standards with airframes, maintenance, piloting and engines.
