Inspirational in what manner. In terms of playing the right way. Couturier is the epitome of that and has been his entire career. - MJL
I don’t really know what Sanheim or Couturier are like off the ice. My perception is that they quiet (I just listened the “Nasty Knuckles” interview of the captain where they discussed how quiet and reserved he is). While they are both solid players they rarely do anything that raises my heart rate . Sanheim is a much better player than Seeler, but Seeler’s effort, physicality, and willingness to block shots gets more of an emotional response from me (and it seems like from his teammates too). Other than maybe TK the Flyers top players are pretty bland. |

I don't see how any of that is a major factor in my opinion. Play on the ice is what counts. I favor the better player in any comparison between two players. |

Major factor in what? I was initially just trying to say that the Flyers must not feel that their best veteran players are good examples or inspiration for their younger players since they continue to add players like Johnson (and that I can kind of see their point). |

What we're talking about. Inspiration for other players. As I posted earlier, I think it's more to do with having to have that security blanket of being able to play veteran players. So they don't have to fully commit to younger players. Every rebuilding team certainly has to have a veteran support system in place but the Flyers overdo it. With Sanheim, York, Drysdale, Seeler, Ristolainen and Johnson. How much opportunity is there really going to be for any of the Flyers young non-established NHL players to get a spot in the lineup? I know, they have to earn it and outplay players who already have a disposition to having a spot in the lineup. Normally to the tune of having to drastically out play them due to the benefit of the doubt normally handed to the vet.

Sort of my point. The Flyers do have plenty of veteran players, yet they feel like they need to add more. Seems to me they don’t feel like their veteran leadership group is getting the job done. |

Yea, I don't think that. I think it's more about their trust of young players and willingness to commit to them and ride it out. More interested in trying to compete.

So why are the Flyers always taking about the veteran leadership and the way these guys are here to show the young guys how to play the right way? Why not just say these guys are better and more dependable than our young unproven players? We’re trying to win and these guys are going to help us win? |

You'd have to ask the Flyers. My guess is that it would expose their true intention. It seems to me that they want to show the young guys how to play the right way by having them watch from the press box while the veteran plays far too often.
