Sure Florida has elite talent, but they also have size on the backend, a strong forecheck and transition game, the willingness to put bodies in front of pucks, and of course the skill to finish off plays. Florida plays a very similar style to the Flyers, the only difference is Florida has way more talent. But talent in itself does not work. Look at Edmonton. They were not close until the entire team bought into what it takes to win games, which wasn't the pond hockey they were playing up to that point.

It will sound eerily familar to those kids that shoot up schools, from Columbine to Parkland. We see the same MO over and over again, yet we do not nothing other than light candles and send out thoughts and prayers. I am glad Trump did not die, but I am horrified to see an innocent bystander get killed, and two more innocent bystanders in critical condition. I hope we don't forget about these people and their families. Just a sickening event.

No, you are right. The Flyers lack high end talent on their team and in their system. Briere and Jones have acknowledged this already multiple times and claim they are trying to rectifiy it anyway they can. There are some potential players coming up, players like Andrae, Bump, Bonk, MacDonald, Barkey and Jett, but these players are 1-3 years away. Michkov will be here but he will need at least 1-2 seasons in the NHL before we start to see what he will become.
To me the best way to go about obtaining potential elite talent is to bottom out as a team and pick in the top 5 of a very good draft. However what kills me as a fan is this franchise has been unwilling to do this. The timing may be right in this coming draft. Jones and Briere have acknoledge multiple times that they do not believe this current team is close. Ok, so what are they going to do about it? So far they have done nothing this off-season. They had better be selling hard at this deadline, otherwise the Flyer stay in purgatory and Briere and Jones are nothing but frauds. The Flyers have options this year. the have some good veteran players that others teams would want down the stretch and into the play-offs, and they have 6 picks in a top heavy draft. They ought to be able to clean up and really rebuild their system quickly, either by drafting and developing or trading for young players ready to break out, for example a player like Byfield from LA who is still unsigned.
