No, you are right. The Flyers lack high end talent on their team and in their system. Briere and Jones have acknowledged this already multiple times and claim they are trying to rectifiy it anyway they can. There are some potential players coming up, players like Andrae, Bump, Bonk, MacDonald, Barkey and Jett, but these players are 1-3 years away. Michkov will be here but he will need at least 1-2 seasons in the NHL before we start to see what he will become.

To me the best way to go about obtaining potential elite talent is to bottom out as a team and pick in the top 5 of a very good draft. However what kills me as a fan is this franchise has been unwilling to do this. The timing may be right in this coming draft. Jones and Briere have acknoledge multiple times that they do not believe this current team is close. Ok, so what are they going to do about it? So far they have done nothing this off-season. They had better be selling hard at this deadline, otherwise the Flyer stay in purgatory and Briere and Jones are nothing but frauds. The Flyers have options this year. the have some good veteran players that others teams would want down the stretch and into the play-offs, and they have 6 picks in a top heavy draft. They ought to be able to clean up and really rebuild their system quickly, either by drafting and developing or trading for young players ready to break out, for example a player like Byfield from LA who is still unsigned.

Indeed. First, this would only be another part of the foundation of a rebuild. So I totally agree that the word “finish” is comical. This so-called rebuild hasn’t even started. Simply using draft picks is not rebuilding, it’s the normal course. The Flyers have done nothing else other than trading a rental defenseman last year at the TDL for a salary dump and a late 1st round pick.

Second, it’s gonna take closer to the 8m x 7 type of offer to make the Kings think about it. It’s a no brainer they match anything south of 7m.

Unfortunately, I don’t think GMDB & Co. have the balls to be aggressive and actually reshape the team. And if you’re the Kings, if not inclined to match, would you rather have 3 draft picks or say, Frost and TK in some type of package deal. Oh well, it’s just a pipe dream since the Flyers have no interest in doing anything big.
