Anytime you trade away the best player in a trade.
You are guaranteed to lose the trade.

tage and johnson for ror, if the blues did not win the cup my guess is we won the trade in a slam dunk |

God knows (no's) there are consequences for correcting grammar on HB...but I gotta speak up now:
When it comes to a player deciding to end his career, that player is resigning.
When a player agrees to a new contract with the team he's already on, he is
re-signing.
I seriously can't tell what posters mean sometimes when these terms are used interchangeably. I was very happy when I heard Girginsons was NOT re-signing with the Sabres, for example, and I really don't care if/when he resigns because he is no longer our problem. - LandlordTom

That trade was never going to be good. When the top prospects teams are offering are,
Krebs
Kakko
Bum from Calgary - DirtyDan
Never is when you trade the Better player, doesn't mean he couldn't have gotten better pieces. Adams wanted Krebs |

Someone somewhere said they thought he would re-sign with the Canes, 1 year 5 mil or so. |

I think his ceiling is higher than Benson, and he's probably as NHL ready. Thing is, is his Finish club going to let him out of his contract to play in Buffalo/Rochester - what's the protocal? - turbo044
Interesting, I am of the mind Helenius is a high floor, low ceiling guy. Hockey Writers had the below, as an example. He's basically good at most things, but has no elite talents.
"He doesn’t have the size or stand-out attribute, which may allow other, more dynamic forwards to sneak ahead." |

Played like 50 more games to though, we are lucky he has turned out. - Buff36
The best ability is availability. Given Jack's yearly injury woes, that may continue to separate. I wonder, if years from now Jack has averaged 50 games per year and less points, if anyone will be able to justify him being the better player. More talented, sure, but who is better for your lineup. I'm still not sold we didn't win that. |

You take Tuch, Greenway, Ostlund and Krebs over those trades, right? Some of those would've been absolutely deadly (Minnie's deal would have us banging with the Sharks n Blackhawks for last). |

Its definitely a top 3 trade for the bald guy |

The Eichel trade still is a loss, but at least tuch is a likeable pro with more points than Eichel since the trade. - Boss34
If the Risto trade is no NHL help for 5 years, it's a failure too.
Eichel has more points than Tuch, so you should drop that line.

Sadly, that's not saying much, but agreed. The Sammy trade certainly looks worse and worse. I don't even want to talk about this years' trades, having been abused mentally by them so recently. |

I disagree.
Any trade for futures considerations has to be top 3.
He didn’t end up giving away the best player in the deal that way. |

No problem and I'm sure many missed it, a re-post for those that missed it...
"Hank and all other Sabres Hockeybuzz members,
I should have introduced myself with my first post, but thought I just quietly join in which I now realize isn't the best way to come in hear.
I've been a long time reader, since Mike Pachla bogging days, and have always thought there to be good hockey minds with good hockey comments, ideas, and opinion in the comment section. I've always resisted the temptation to join the fray, but finally gave in and recently joined. I just come in to hear peoples ideas and that's all, and I'm not coming to argue or troll.
I appreciate the opportunity to be apart of the Sabres Hockeybuzz community, thanks". - BuffaloHerd
