Interesting, I am of the mind Helenius is a high floor, low ceiling guy. Hockey Writers had the below, as an example. He's basically good at most things, but has no elite talents.

"He doesn’t have the size or stand-out attribute, which may allow other, more dynamic forwards to sneak ahead."

- QuinnFan

Helenious isn’t skilled enough. Very good talent. Not elite.

Bensons sill set coming out was elite

tage and johnson for ror, if the blues did not win the cup my guess is we won the trade in a slam dunk
- homiedclown

That’s definitely a good one. But yeah winning the cup hurt that point

The best ability is availability. Given Jack's yearly injury woes, that may continue to separate. I wonder, if years from now Jack has averaged 50 games per year and less points, if anyone will be able to justify him being the better player. More talented, sure, but who is better for your lineup. I'm still not sold we didn't win that.

Eichel is a much better 2 way player than Tuch, and even with those games missed Tuch is only ahead by like 14pts

To all - what is your projected points for the roster as is?
Mine is 90.

- IonSabres

87

Scoring depth is not strong enough to sustain injuries. I foresee a stretch where 2 critical players go down for 10 games and the season is over.

This season basically hinges on Dahlin being absolutely elite and healthy. If he's a 90 point player, they likely make it. If he's a 59 point player again, he'll be riding jetskis for another long summer

I'd say it starts with the top line and goaltending. If the top line produces, Dahlin and Power will put up their points.

Goaltending was league average last season, even with UPL playing well above average. Need to get better than that.

Imagine the projections will be right around 86 points.

We really have No depth in Certain area's, if we stay Healthy and UPL wasn't a fluke I say 93pts. If we don't stay healthy or have a couple key injuries 83pts

Dahlin is the $11m franchise player. He needs to generate offense from the backend and elevate the players around him, not the other way around. This team is going nowhere unless Dahin is elite

I think Dahlin and Power do that, but the points won't be there if the top 6 doesn't show up. The bottom 6 is unlikely to produce much, so there's an even bigger burden on them.

So, no improvement?
- IonSabres

They theoretically improved the bottom six but the top six still has glaring issues.

If they add another high scoring player in the top six, I’ll change my tune.

I don't expect the projections to be that kind. The additions they made just don't move GF/GA that much. Hitting 90 is going to take guys performing above expectations.

I think UPL/Levi could perform above average (if they are the two), but there's no reason to project that in an impartial model.

They don't add another Top 6 they really need to stay Healthy and whoever is in the top 6 has to produce.

I’d like to think Lindy adds a boost and I’m hoping tage/cozens are the guys from 2 years ago.

I also think the division is locked up and we’re aiming for a wild card at best.

Does feel like they are in a group of 8 teams fighting for 2 spots again.

They way this team is built, they are going to have to win close games. Donnie was just awful in those.

Season hinges on 4 things:

Tage not sucking
Cozens not sucking
Tuch not sucking
The PP Not sucking

If you say so. If Dahlin isn't elite and isn't able to elevate this team, it's going to be rebuild #4. No one is ready to talk about the $11m man yet, but if he has a season like last year, he's going to get the heat he deserves and it's going to be over for this core

Do you put a lot of PP blame on him? His EV production has been about the same the last 2 seasons.

Goaltending will be huge if it’s average the team in front isn’t good enough. It needs to be at least above average.

Fix the pp and Dahlins point total goes up

Tuch cozens and tage all sucked on the pp last year as well

The powerplay was abysmal and I attribute a lot of that to the former staff. My point is simply this: 59 points and a -3 isn't getting them to the playoffs. They need their ace to be an ace; there are no excuses when you're the man and he's the man, or at least he's supposed to be. We'll see this year if he's worth $11m.

Dahlin needs to be a super star , he’s getting paid like one.

He should be a point per game guy, whether it’s on the pp or even strength

Exactly. Eichel at $10m took far more poop from the fans/media and produced considerably more year-over-year than Dahlin at $11m. Time for the #1 pick to elevate the team
