If Rutger McGroarty were in the Sabres pipeline, where would he be slotted?
1, 2, 3?

The only players current on the roster that don’t fit are

Greenway and Krebs.

Both players have other players on the roster that replaced them.

Laffery and McLeod for Krebs
The entire 4th line for greenway.

- Sabretooth9

Does Clifton fit
Samuelsson with the injury issues, same can be said for Quinn. Are injuries gonna continue with them.
Zucker and his fit
Still a lot to be answered

Krebs had skinner and I forgot the other winger to end the year last year. That entire line was a mess. (And I like Krebs)

Same page about greenway.

So that is fair. I just don’t see Krebs in the lineup on opening day. Maybe a healthy scratch.

You aren’t playing Krebs over zucker or benson to start on left wing

- Sabretooth9

Yeah, Skinner is an anchor to any line to me. He's propped up by good players and allowed to run wild in the o-zone. Krebs can't carry him and Greenway, which is what he got tasked with.

Krebs may see the booth, but I've got a sneaking suspicion he gets traded. Think he has any value beyond a mid round pick?

I would think 2nd due to having a lower ceiling, but he's that far up the ranking due to the floor being high. Ostlund, Rosen and Wahlberg all have good potential, but could all bust out as well. Kulich is the only sure thing we have IMO.

Quinn's gonna pop off 30+ this year. He is poised for a big breakout imo.

Benson's gonna get 20+, JJ gonna hit 25+, Tage back to 45, Coz-Coz at 25, Tuch will crack 30....nobody will be thinking of Jeffy by end of training camp.

Our PP will be middle of the pack, which alone will net us 10 more points than last year. and PK will be top-10. Dahlin will be a Norris finalist and hit 20+60

And our goalie collective save % will be over .900. 6k will be above average in all major categories. This whole franchise is primed for a breakout year like we've all been dreaming of.

- LandlordTom

Quinn I'm with you, but don't know if we will see all that happen. PP will help though you're right, we have the horses to improve in that area. The issue is if goaltending regresses or any of those guys gets injured. If you have Cozens as your 1C or McLeod as 2C, you're in big trouble fast.

While I hear you on Skinner, I hate myself, so if we don't spend that money, I'll probably think about him for at least a moment every day until we make the playoffs again.

defense is a cluster(frank) of "settling".

The depth is there, it's great. You have a lot of guys that can play some minutes. but the top 6 is messy because they let Joker come back, who can't do jack (frank) without Dahlin.

I'm on a diet run. First time I've ever started one in July. So this is a tough thing to read.

It works, but again, it's unacceptable to a GM who will lose his job if he's out of the playoffs. Not to mention unacceptable to the org and its fans.

JJ scored 28 last year

Him on the first line all season it should be more like 35+ for this team to have a shot at the playoffs

I would hope, but Tuch and Tallness have to have Healthy and Bounce back Years. Health will be important this Year.

Could be.
So many variables to consider in projecting their points, with 96-98 typically a team gets in.

Just internally to the Sabres,
-impact of Lindy on System, in-game tactics/adjustments, holding players accountable
-growth/bounce back by players who had a down year in Tage, Tuch, Cozens, Quinn, Dahlin, Power
-improved speed tenacity in bottom 6
-better production from L3 more specifically
-improved special teams

Then one has to consider the external competition that remains strong in the East...most PO teams got better, or least I think will hang onto a PO spot.. Wash got better after qualifying last season with 91 pts while being ~40 G's on the negative side of the ledger... Most notably, NJ is better.
So very tough competition.

- IonSabres

I agree, a lot of variables. Trying to simplify it, I came up with the following:

1) Top two forward lines need to bounce back offensively.
2) All the new pieces need to fit together, the sum of new players need to be greater than the individual players.
3) Defense needs to take a development step or we have a system that makes our defense better.
4) Need goaltenders to be good.

Sounds like a lot to ask, but maybe only one or two of the four items need to be significant improvement while the remaining only a small improvement over last year.

Hopefully coaching leads to a better defensive system and defensive play. I'm quite interested in how these new players on the 4th and 3rd line will fit together as a group and have to hope the play of the group far exceeds what each individual may bring to the team.
