Good teams work around that

Some do yes.

Need to
-slow the long-term contract commitments
-have young players ready to go on cheep ELC's
-stay away from Free Agency
-lwverage Hockey Trades with money in/money out transactions

I'm still curious how suddenly starting to show financial restraint on contract extensions is going to go for him. Cost him Mitts. Joker straight to UFA. UPL next, then a huge wave next summer.

McLeod is getting Levi type of hype this summer...I find it fascinating.
- washedup20

No McLeod is not getting Levi hype 😂

He’s a good 3rd line center and his analytics check out.

Good news about the NHL is that it’s easy to move money in and out.

The cap dumps for this summer cost was a 2nd round pick + cap dump for futures.

Walls close in a bit the next couple years on the cap space and I think their intentions are to use cheap guys to offset that 6.4M hit. Farabee I think fits your needs and cap hit. So does Vatrano. Zegras I have concerns may be too high.
- TheSabresTaco

If you bring in Farabee as a trade option @ $5.0m for 4 years, Adams will need to trade out salary as well. Krebs and Greenway make sense for the Sabres .. but does that work for Philly?
Also,
JJP (extended), Tage, Tuch, Farabee, Cozens, Quinn (extended), Benson, McLeod are pretty much locked in, leaving Zucker's 3rd line spot as the only opening in the Top 9.
Sabres have about $17m net (Skinner's BO, Zucker savings) in Space available over this and next season to extend
-JJP
-Quinn
-UPL
-Levi
-Byram

That isn't a lot of Space and enables 1 ELC in the F ranks.

They can find another $3.3m by offloading Cliffy and replacing him with RyJo.

Point is, they have a tightrope to walk Cap wise.

Farabee only adds complexity.

So NHL is projecting Cap at $92m for '25-'26. Additional $5m seems a tad high but not unrealistic.
Add in $4m for Farabee over Helenius and Rookie Bonus money if say $2.5m and things are tight. If JJP insists on $7m then your now up against it in a bad way.

The prudent thing is to bring Kulich along or trade away more than Krebs and Greenway for Farabee or another move.

Not as much as it seems until they get past year 3 of Skinner's BO

You omitted Skinner's BO and ELC Bonus money in your projections ...

Can they make it work... Sure. It isn't as easy as you laid out though.

I didn't omit skinner. And bonus money is not certain.

Reason I made the post was because of skinner.

McLeod is definitely overhyped

He's an average 3C and we gave up a boat load for him, so we're trying to cope.

If McLeod has a good year, what does his extension look like? Bridge?

I don't know about sly, but the rest is accurate.

Curious, you watched any of Malenstyn yet? People told me he's Kaleta, but I don't see the crushing body checks like him. He's solid but rarely floors someone. Am I missing it?

I'm always wrong it seems on contracts, but that's my guess. 2x3.5M if he does well? I can't see them offering long term unless he really freaks out, given our center depth. Ostlund, Kulich and Helenius have to get the call at some point. I know many view Kulich as a wing, but Ostlund and Helenius are natural centers IMO.

Interesting situation we have with Kulich, Wahlberg, Ostlund and Helenius. And no top 3 center positions available.

Kulich isn't a centerman, as much as they want to force it... good they're getting him to heighten his defensive game but he'll be a winger in the NHL.

I think you can move Thompson back to the wing anytime if one of the above show they have that top 6 C ability, or maybe Cozens takes that over
