Well, they have a Propsect or 2 for 3C who are not ready yet... The timeline is typical of prospects except at the very top of the draft, right? Ostlund, Wahlberg, Helenius.
If Savoie is now projected as a decent middle six, and likely a winger, how grossly did they "overpay" in acquiring a decent 3C with some upside?
This is closer to much ado about nothing - IonSabres
Yep, and and a year ago Savoie was a top of that list. |

The Sabres only overpaid if Savoie reaches his draft ceiling.
Like Lunaion said, history shows he's lagging.
It is absolutely possible he turns into a real player. If he doesn't hit his ceiling, if he's a 55 point winger, did we overpay? - TheSabresTaco
Well if McLeod does nothing more than he is Know, and we don't improve. Than Yes |

What if I told you the total positive value McLeod provided to his team this season would have been 2nd overall on the Sabres behind Dahlin and 1st overall in value/minute

I'd say you expect a #9 to be an NHL regular in D+3 (this year). You hope a #16 is as well. Mentioning younger prospects potentially leapfrogging them isn't a good sign.

Always a concern that defensive metrics don't hold as well.

Why did team Canada pass on him multiple times?
No one can seem to answer that. Unless he declined because of injuries? - ImThatGuy
Exactly. My point about savoie this entire time is that he has had a Rocky development path. Some definite reg flags
As a 20 year old. He didn’t even dominate juniors.
Does that mean I think he sucks? No, he is just more of a wildcard than when we drafted him.
McLeod has NHL experience, nhl level analytics, and etc.
Sabres got a good player for his projected role and the Oilers got a joker of a playing card. Savoie could be amazing but he can also be a bust. |

McLeods linemates for most of the year were bums.
When he played with draistal. He put up points and showed offensive upside. |

That's fantastic, hopefully it transfers over with the Sabres. I wish nothing but the best for the guy and want to see him develop even more with the Sabres. |

The biggest factor has to be terrible timing. Very hard for a D+2 kid in the CHL to increase his value + an ill-timed injury at worlds, which was his chance to shine against better competition. - Lunaion
Add his birthdate and the stupid CHL rule.
I think that is a sign as well, lol. |

Want nothing but the best for him, and hopefully he grows even more with us. Just expected more in a trade for Savoie. Doesn't mean I don't want McLeod to be good here, just make the Team better. |

His most common linemates were Corey Perry and Warren Foegele. These aren't bums.

I agree, so referring to him as a 1st (he is) implies higher value than a 9th OA who has 4 min of NHL time and now is in his D+3 yr.
That's my point, his value isn't that of a recent 9-OA anymore, so the claim of overpay is suspect at best.
Again, I really like him, but he was going to be a middle six player on this roster.
Only thing to do is wait and see, hopefully he does well in The Oil |

I think both can be true: his value has slipped and it was a significant overpay.
Desperate GM's do desperate things.

He only played 38 games with Edmonton, so 13pts ain't bad. Played with Chicago the first part of the Year |

Hopefully that youngin gets 40 or 50 this year homie. But Perry was decent for Edmonton in his 57 games including playoffs. |

Was he, says he played 19gms was a -3 with 4 or 5 pts. I really only watched much of Edmonton in the finals.
Edit: 3pts in the playoffs |

Ignoring the fact that the Savoie trade should've been done 2 years ago to get a better player, only to get excited for a desperation move...
