if we were to trade Igor what are we looking at for the return? - evitageN
To be clear, I am far from advocating trading him. If they did, they would need a new #1 and that goalie would have to be viewed as someone that could help them reach and win in the ECF and SCF |

Are we better with Guentzel or a similar player and Askorov, or just Shesty. That’s how you have to look at it going into next year. |

No, I have always been fair and honest. I was happy they Hank that deal, just wish he left a smidge on the table to help NY sign others - airjan23
So you’re not considering firing Drury, signing bad players, blowing it up, reveling in the chaos you caused, etc?
I’m just messing around |

This is something I would do in EA NHL 24 which tells me it would never work in real life |

Hey, thanks for stopping by a hockey rumor site to talk about hypothetical rumors. I guess we’ll go back to the 11 posts that were made for all of yesterday and just sit here in silence. |

I just think there is a zero percent chance they trade Igor. The reason they aren’t spending this offseason is to budget for Miller, Igor and laf next summer |

You bring up Askarov every day. We know your take. Yelling it into the void here isn't doing anything.
Askarov may end up being a good goalie but look at his AHL numbers vs Shesterkin.
Askarov in the past 2 years had a 2.69/2.39 GAA and .911 S% in each season. Last season he was atrocious in the AHL playoffs with a 3.25 GAA and 0.882 S%.
Igor played half a year in the AHL and put up a 1.90 GAA and 0.934 S%.
He then went on to have what is on pace to be the start of a HoF career in the NHL.
A team trying to win now is not going to trade arguably the best goalie in the NHL right now, and one of the best playoff goalies in recent memory for a kid with 2 NHL games under his belt and a decent but somewhat uninspiring AHL career. |

I also love Shesty but no more than $9.5m cap hit or trade him. We do have Benoit Allaire |

If thats the case then no matter what, they will run it back, same team the following season also with no room to add another player. |

Gazillion percent correct
What would worry me about Askarov is Nashville has him in their system and they just signed their goalie for 8 years to big money (not as much as Shesty will get). But wouldn’t you just let him take the reins if he’s really that good? It’s definitely not a ringing endorsement for the kid they signed Saros. After about a year of rumors of him being moved too |

Worry about the extension when/if it happens. I'm curious about if anything else happens this offseason |

Let's get to the start of this coming season before we worry too much about this. We worried like this over Zib when his original deal was ending and he took a good contract/discount to stay. Perhaps Shesty will, as well. He's nearing 30, so he isn't going to get a 7 year deal. 4-5 most likely. His requesting term by his agent is just a starting point, but will surely come down to earth...or so we all hope.
I am on the not paying him over $10M bandwagon, btw... |

Shesty is going to want 7-8 years at $11 million+. That’s the reality. |

He's not getting that...that'a also a reality. No team will sign him for that unless it's San Jose. |

I don’t have the time to do the research at the moment, but who could realistically give him a big contract where he would want to play? Who has the cap space where he would still have a good team in front of him to be a contender?
Edit: and also needs a goalie. |

In the end it will be what Dolan wants and whether he thinks Shesty is as marque as Henrik was. Florida has a crazy high-priced goalie but it not every day you can fleece another team to a cup (Calgary) |

Not sure if anyone knows, but if you don't, the new Salary Cap website go-to is capwages.com
It's nearly identical to Cap Friendly. |

He’s absolutely getting $11+ million. I also think, but aren’t as positive it will be for 7-8 years. If I had to guess though, it will be. |

Let's be fair here, I do plenty of reality-checking in the Islanders thread (among others) too. Like when people suggest trading 2 or 3 aging players on bad contracts with full NTC's for a good player.
Mostly it's just tongue-in-cheek I like most of the Rangers fans in here, with 27 exceptions |
