Ruh is a fine 3rd pairing guy. Honestly I never saw it fit for Pit to keep signing more 3rd pairing guys because Ruh always outplayed them. |

It seems to me like the Bob and Price contracts are the two outliers. Signed in 2017 and 2019 and both looked like terrible deals right away.
It seems teams have gotten smarter. The three most recent deals handed out were to Hellebyuck, Sorokin and Saros for $8.5 and $8.25 and $7.7. Vasi was signed pre-COVID for $9.5.
I'd be shocked if Igor gets the $11.5M that is being thrown around here. I could see him signing for 8 x $10 which I would have no problem with.
Assuming the cap goes up another $4M next year and continues to climb with 32 teams now and Arizona moved to Utah. They also are not scaling back any of the revenue drivers that they put in place when they weren't selling tickets like the ads on jerseys/helmets and the virtual ads on the boards. The HRR is going to keep growing. |

I agree, 10 mil might be the high on an 8 year deal. Maybe 10.5.

I'd sign that right now. 8x$10.5. Call it a day. I'd be shocked if Igor get's anything less than 7 years and $10m
Edit: I also feel like there would be a line full of teams waiting to sign Igor at $10.5M given the opportunity |

His agent said he’s seeking $12.9 a year and believes that’s fair market with the cap expected to rise. No thanks. |

At nearly $13M a year, I think it would be wise for the Rangers to explore every available option, even a trade. I do believe that his agent is setting that number intentionally high knowing it's unlikely it will happen. I personally think he is going to get a deal with $$ similar to Panarin....$11-$11.5 over 7-8 years. Thats why I would jump at the 8.$10.5

He isn’t going from wanting 12.9 to under 10. Could he settle in the middle for 11.5? Maybe, but at 11.5, see ya later pal. |

Maybe not. But, there is also no reason to assume he's getting $13M or something else unmanageable.
Vasi was 25 when TBay signed him for 8 years. Bob was a UFA, so that's not identical. And Saros only got $7.75M.
There is a chance your fears are reasonable, but not a large one. |

Exactly Igor wants 12.9, rangers probably want 9.5. They will find middle ground |

Yes. And as was pointed out, the team that has him decided to sign their 30 year old, former trade asset for 8 years. He must be a sure thing. Not quite the same as Shesty having the team buyout a franchise legend and HoFer to make way for him. |

Stuart Skinner just took the Oilers to the cup. No name rookie Binnington won the Blues a cup. You don’t need an elite goalie to win a cup. Journeyman Darcy Kuemper won a cup with COL. Etc etc. I don’t think sinking 12-13% of your cap into a goalie is a smart move. |

Middle ground is around 11.5. That’s crazy for a goalie. |

Would you do Igor at 10.5x8 or even 11x8? Ive heard reports, of course who knows if it is true that he will want at least Price kind of money. If thats the case, the Rangers will be tight against the cap in 25-26 with no wiggle room to add players. |

This is not something I sit around crunching numbers on. But, yes I would. I get that it's a lot of money, but people are on here talking like goalie contracts should be immune to the inflation that drives every other signing in the league. That's terribly unrealistic. Goalies will inevitably earn more and Igor is near the pinnacle of his position.
Yes, that will constrict spending in other areas, but we have some solid young prospects that will hopefully alleviate that need in the forward group, at least.
Of course, I'm a member of Team Believe and think that major changes are not needed. We were 6 wins short. That's fine tuning territory, not rebuild, IMO. |

When you get to the final 4, 6 wins is like climbing to a mountain top. For me its how they were outplayed in that series and how it could have gone either way in the Canes series.
Not to rebuild but needing a major tinker. |

Connor McDavid brought Edmonton to a cup and Stuart Skinner was along for the ride. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar won Colorado a cup, not Darcy Kuemper. Last I checked we don't have Connor McDavid or Nathan MacKinnon. I also don't see them as being available.
Would I rather have Shesty or Guentzal, the answer is pretty easily Shesty.
You also realize that Tom is agreeing with you here which should say something |
