Just feel that Woll signing was a mistake. 39 career games shouldn't get you close to 4 million. Of course I hope the guy does well but if you're paying him that much now, what are going to pay him later, on a raise of his current salary?
- systemtool

It's a gamble no doubt. Here's hoping it pays off.

I like Woll. I join you in the hope on this one.

I agree they are much better positioned now than last year if they lose a goalie for a lengthy stretch this year. Jones coming up big was pretty much pure luck based on what he had done in the past IMO.

Murry making a strong comeback would be found money for sure.

- Cush29

If Murray did what Jones did last year and had ten good games when needed, I'd take that. But dunno if I love the chances of it.

Nice place to visit but I like living in my native Canada. If I had to move countries there's lots of good places to go in the US. I'd still stay northern US though, I like winter

In my retirement, I want to spend 6 months in the Florida Keys, so I can fish, dive, and snorkel every day…and the other 6 months on a walleye and perch lake, maybe Lake of the Woods to catch ‘em’ all.

Actually have proposed this idea to the wife many times. Arizona. I think the Canadian population is high as (frank) paying what we pay for homes and in taxes. Done with this poop. Sadly the wife won't sign off on it.

I'd move out of Canada but zero (frank)ing chance I'd ever move to the US. I go to Arizona every winter, nice for a week or two but the US in general is way to sideways to ever live there.

I'm not built for heat, gimme Minnesota or Colorado. Or better yet Copenhagen.

Speaking of angling, I'm on schneid so bad lately. This was after I got my PB largemouth on an awesome choppo top water strike, now I can't catch a cold. Oh well so it goes. Got Kingston this weekend then Haliburton. Go Leafs Go

I'm way more comfortable with their goaltending than their depth at forward.

just roll the top 6 for 20+min a night, that leave 20min or less to chew on for the 3rd and 4th line. When you invest a large portion of your cap in a small group of players, they must carry the team

The largest challenge with goaltending is finding a goalie who is consistent and trustworthy.

Since 2020 there have been 82 goalies to play more than 35 games (in total over those 4 years) and face 1500 shot events (not necessarily shots on net; shots towards the net for clarity).

In terms of Goals Saved Above Expected / 60 Joseph Woll sits a surprising 5th on that list - Anthony Stolarz sits 4th. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 are Shesterkin, Sorokin and Hellebuyck. The next guys rounding out the top 10 are Ullmark, Swayman, Brossoit, Saros and Connor Ingram.

Where Woll hasn't been elite is his ability to post .900%+ games - or Quality Starts. He carries a 55.9% average which is 33rd in that list of 82 goalies. Stolarz, by the way, is 6th @ 63.6%. The top 3 QS% guys are Ullmark, Varlamov and Sorokin.

Overall, just by averages, even with his small sample size, Woll's numbers sort of slot in with Andersen, Oettinger and Skinner. Despite his struggles early in the playoffs last year, Skinner is a very good goalie - and I think Woll is better.

If he can stay healthy, he could be the goalie for the team.

I don't like, just because of the cap otherwise I wouldn't give a crap, that young guys with limited experience are getting such large contracts now, but the precedent was set and then repeated now by numerous other teams. I think it would have nearly impossible to avoid paying Woll what we did.

Probably.

They'll be trending up again but I doubt they make the playoffs.

Paying based off of his potential.. It's risky, but I hope it works out.. We need a long term solution in goal

If Woll stays healthy, this deal will turn out to be a great one.

2019-2020 - 32 total games
2020-2021 - 15 total games
2021-2022 - 19 total games
2022-2023 - 28 total games
2023-2024 - 29 total games

That's an extremely limited amount of playing time for a guy who is 26 years old already

Arizona will be unlivable in the next 10-20 years.

The heat will be too high, the water will be too scarce, and they still won't have an NHL team.
