Who? Went though the NHL draft lists and didn't see him anywhere.

Though Billy Dee Williams is cool.

Plus Bedard has already won RoY....

For Williams to do the same he would have to do it without having any receivers and miss 3 games

The only young D that are not waiver exempt are Phillips/Crevier. KD is only going to trade any of the other young D is he believes he gets fair value back.
- LAHawk

I think Crevier might still be waiver exempt.

Lets hope so

I just find it interesting that both teams basically did the same thing, (total tear down and rebuild), about the same time, about the same way (bringing in young GM with vision), in the same major sports market city.

To this point they seem to be on the same trajectory, but neither is to the point where they've hit the next phase. I would say the Bears are about there as the roster having been tore down, has been built back up.

Most very good QBs have avg'ish rookie years though. It may be '25-26 before CW becomes generational (sorry, had to add it).

KD on the other hand isn't to the point of the roster being rebuilt, but he already knows his generational player is generational.

Just and interesting comparison to watch the two.

Football is also a bit different due to the rookies being early 20’s instead of late teens. Tends to be a quicker transition time.

I will just copy the waiver rule

A player's waiver status is determined by a combination of their signing age OR their age of playing their first professional game; plus years since signing an NHL contract OR number of NHL games played. There are different rules for forwards and defenseman compared to goaltenders. Once the player meets either the minimum number of years or games played, they need waivers.

The following table from the current CBA indicates when a player is no longer exempt from waivers. For example, a skater who signs his entry-level contract at 18 will become exempt after playing 160 NHL games, or after five seasons (whichever comes first).

NHL Waivers
If an 18- or 19-year-old plays 11 NHL games in an NHL season, the waiver exemption is reduced to four years for goalies and four years for skaters.

For 20-year-old players (either skaters or goalies), playing in one professional game will count as the first year of their exemption. For 25-year-old players (either skaters or goalies) playing one professional game will only be exempt for the remainder of that season.

Age Years from Signing NHL Contract NHL Games Played Years from Signing NHL Contract NHL Games Played
Skaters Goalies
18 5 160 6 80
19 4 160 5 80
20 3 160 4 80
21 3 80 4 60
22 3 70 4 60
23 3 60 3 60
24 2 60 2 60
25+ 1 1

Hawks loaning Antti Saarela to a Finland league team. He's on the last year of his ELC and probably not going to be extended. The move clears a bit of the upcoming Rockford forward logjam.

Hayes is one of the non-first round prospects whose development I am most interested in. There seems to me more of a spotlight on the likes of Greene, Ludwinski, Lardis, and Kantersov. All four guys deserve some attention, but I think Hayes could be the best pro of the group.

Much easier to evaluate a red shirt 22 year old than an 18 year old.

Lol you mean Moore, Allen and Oduzne are better options than Foligno, Kurashev, Donato or Entwhistle?

Let's hope the Hagel trade works as well for the Hawks as trading the first draft pick two years ago worked for the Bears.

A rumour from the FAN590, Shane Wright to Chicago for Reichel and a draft pick. The pick wasn’t specified, I guess making up a rumour is good enough?

White Sox are doing the same for the second time in 5 years. It takes some luck. Rick Hahn bet on the wrong guys. Cease and Giolito are gone. Moncada and Jimenez can't stay on the field and really aren't that good.
