They are going to throw huge money at a FA 1C and a FA 1D when the time comes. That is their plan IMO. Both will be in their late 20's early 30's and have albatross contracts down the line artificially shortening the window.

More likely to happen is that they massively overpay a good 2C and a good 2D and try to sell them as critical core pieces. The Flyers organization is basically Charlie Brown kicking at the football again, and again and again.
