I don’t know if I’m right for saying or believing this but would the Flyers be justified fast tracking a little had things workout with Cutter Gauthier, particularly playing center? If Gauthier is still here, in their minds you have your Toews and Kane, could they had built on it?
- roenick97

It's all academic but using the qualifier "in their minds" they would've thought they were justified. Hell, I think they still believe they are there as it is. Disagree?

In truth, it seems that Gauthier's natural spot is likely 1st line winger, not center, in the NHL. The Flyers passed on a potential #1 defenseman because they had to many similar players. The goalie situation is a mess and pipeline from the AHL to the NHL is dry of real talent.

Get your #1 center, #1 D, a pipeline of talented COST CONTROLLED youth that can either be promoted or used as trade chips and then you start the next phase. The Flyers are 0 for 3 and even with Gauthier it would be 1 for 3.

Hell, a Landeskog/MacKinnon led Avalanche bottomed out before they drafted Makar. Toews/Kane had their Duncan Keith. Before getting to high on Michkov, remember even OV needed Backstrom (#4 overall center) to win the cup.

The Flyers are pinning a lot of unrealistic expectations on Drysdale who, despite his age, is entering his 5th NHL season having missed 50% of his games and hasn't been healthy in almost 3 years.

It is indeed the dog days. Don posted the clickbait, might as well help with the page views.

https://x.com/charlieo_co...right-move-for-the-flyers

Players were begging Briere not to trade Laughton? Is that like people walking up to Hilferty on the street thanking him for saving the Flyers?

https://thehockeynews.com...right-move-for-the-flyers

"I wasn't gonna trade him for fair value because he's more than fair value to us," Briere stated. "The intangibles that he brings to the locker room are something that has no price, and the other teams don't see that, but we do. I told him that...someone would have to overstep and really knock it out of the ballpark for us to consider it.

"I had a lot of teams interested in him, as you can imagine. There's not a lot of centermen. He's a good one, so it's a good thing for him. Teams around the NHL still value you, so I think that's exciting for him, but not good enough for us to let a player like that go who is critical to the development of our locker room and our young guys around him."

Similar view on Seeler :

https://www.nytimes.com/a...e-flyers-laughton-briere/

Briere gave a similar message when he spoke about why re-signing 30-year-old Nick Seeler to a four-year, $10.8 million contract was
palatable. Seeler wasn’t worth to other teams what he has already shown to be worth to the Flyers, and part of that was the “culture
side,” Briere said.
Along with keeping Laughton, the Flyers decided re-signing Nick Seeler to a four-year, $10.8 million was more valuable than trading him.
“He was in demand, but we felt what we were getting in return, we were getting more value by re-signing him.”

Also briere : Hopefully we can keep it rolling in getting to the playoffs,” Briere said on Thursday. “Now that’s the goal from now on, for me
personally.
… In a sense, that’s exceeded what we were hoping for at the beginning of the season.”

If anyone was still confused about it being a rebuild. The leadership provided by Nick and Scott were so great they lost what, 10 of their last 13 games. They weren't able to overcome other teams with their valuable culture.

Now on the other side of the coin :

https://buffalohockeynow.com

PuckLuck’s new WAR metric (wins above replacement) ranks Laughton as the worst player on the Flyers per 60 minutes. Below-replacement impacts at even-strength defense, powerplay offense, and shorthanded defense cost his team a little over three points in the standings based on his usage.

He's just not a very good hockey player. Any way you look at it Laughton isn't helping the Flyers rebuild or make the playoffs. He's like kid's stuffed animal or blanket. He provides security for the insecure.

I’m not writing anyone off. I don’t know if the Flyers track record in drafting is as bad as developing players seems to be. Patrick Maroon was ours but the Flyers never gave him a shot. Joe Pavelski is a great example of, you just never know. Chris Drury for me is another good example of you just never know.

Of course he is. I don't think you'll get an argument about the Flyers poor judgement on players, that they continue to show.
- MJL

Speaking of poor judgement…

You absolutely sign a player like Coots to an 8 year deal and build around him

Right, MJL? 😆 talk about an inability to evaluate players…

How’s that working out?

Zeev just said he wanted to go someplace ‘where it’s culture first and you have to put aside your ego.’

That’s the Flyers, no?

Your comments are ridiculous on a number of levels. You state that you don't feel the need to complain about the Flyers every day. Yet every time you come on the site, you feel the the need to complain about the people complaining about the Flyers. That's a lack of self awareness on your part. Secondly, your comment about there being more to life than the Flyers. Another asinine statement. When on this site and in this thread, the context and subject matter is the Flyers. You don't seem to understand that. So how is someone not enjoying the day or enjoying what life has to offer, by giving an opinion on the Flyers?
Thirdly and perhaps more importantly. You don't seem to be able to grasp that the complaints entail not just that trades haven't been made but the reasoning given by the team on why they're not looking to make certain moves. It reinforces and repeats the same failed concepts and thinking of the team, that has been going on for well over a decade. Despite having new people in management positions. Apparently though, according to you, they should just enjoy life and when discussing the Flyers, just enjoy life and dismiss the lack of success and failed execution of the franchise.

Your comments are delusional, unintelligent and comical. Enjoy your day.

Lol I love it! I thought you only go after/criticize people when they go after you? My conversation was with another poster, yet here you are! The fact that you took the time to type all that out made my day! Pure comedy. Keep up the great work!

What chances? How many times did Maroon play in a Flyers uniform? Patrick Maroon has pretty good numbers with the phantoms and saw no call ups. Who was better, Harry Zolnierczyk? Andreas Nodl? What great NHL careers.

You continue to show that you have a reading comprehension issue. I have never stated that I only criticize someone if they criticize me. This has never been about Jett. He will get his chance to show what he can do. It's about how the Flyers arrived at picking Jett, the competency of the men in charge, and whether the stated rebuild is real or bullpoop.

The Flyers pretty much fail at every level of defending what they are doing, if their goal is to rebuild and plan to at some point field a Stanley cup contending roster. They do excel at keeping the media/fans off their backs in the short term because, much like the housing market pre-2007 crash, nobody wants to look to hard.

Outliers do not prove your case. It's like pointing out to the one person out of 200 in a plane crash who survives and telling everyone the flight was safe. If SJ had a freaking crystal ball they wait until the 7th round to draft him? No. Jett was drafted in the 1st so, huh?

Relying on outliers is unrealistic. Jett will most likely be a middle of the lineup player, great, exciting but not what the Flyers are missing to contend and better choices were on the board. Nobody is writing him off but nobody wants to hear how the Flyers alumni turned Flyers GM whose only NHL front office experience is Fletcher and announcer turned President of Hockey Ops are smarter than every publicly available scouting report in the NHL.

Pavelski forced himself onto every roster with his play. Drafted out of the USHL when it wasn’t as respected. Wisconsin didn’t even want to give him a full ride. Yet he led them in scoring both years. The scout who discovered him was the only one who believed in him and fumed at the Sharks for six rounds.

Jett is billed as a good skater and Pavelski never was better than average. Pavelski fell under the radar and Jett didn’t. I don’t see any legitimate reason to compare the two.

He is in a tough spot (squeeze). He has to buy into the higher ups strategy. No tank or flatten out on purpose. Try to build the roster on the fly. Keep the attendance in the Wells Fargo Center decent. Torts is still popular among some of the paying fans that keep this project somewhat profitable or break even. If this project and strategy fails again, maybe Comcast bows out like sleepy 😴 Joe.

If Jett had even half of Pavs' hands and scoring ability at the same age nobody would have a problem with the pick.

Problem is the chance that Zeev meets his top-pair potential is higher than the chance Jett exceeds his middle-six projection. It's all about the probability. Neither of them are slam dunk anything but Zeev is simply more talented.

Yes these are only rumors but this is my point which I repeat all the time. Why are the Flyers not even in the conversation for potential young solid prospects. This team has no vision and no plan and clearly doesn’t act aggressively to rebuild. Would anyone rather have McGroarty or Askarov or Colorado or Edmontons 1st rounders or any of these 2nd and 3rds? Why are the Flyers not in the mix, at least according to the rumors.

Even if not these two, and I get it. Doesn’t it annoy you (plural all of us) that the Flyers are not apparently in on any of these players? Maybe McGraorty and Alskarov don’t matter but what are they doing with other young players that are rumored to be available? Players like Rossi and Zegras, Necas perhaps. Let’s just stick with Injured and aging Coots, Talented Frost White coach Hayes and won’t give a fair shot, Poehling and Laughton who are interchangeable. I’m just really starting to see that it’s the same old song and dance
