When did I say that? And wtf do I care about VGK cup run. I care about NYR 2025 cup run and I’m not sure 13 goal Reilly Smith who seems to be declining gets us there.
- nyrangers9479

well in the finals he played really well vs Florida, the team that just beat us

and you regularly go on and on about players not performing in the playoffs

just keep remaining inconsistent

I wouldn’t call him value, Pitt gave up a 3rd for him. He had a down year, and we gave up a 2nd and 5th. Value was PITT getting him for a 3rd and turning that into better picks.
- nyrangers9479

We’ve talked about this before. Vegas was forced to deal players because of their cap situation. That applied downward pressure on his value. Pitt was not in that situation. It’s not a fair comparison.

If you think what the rangers paid was too high for the player, that’s a different conversation and worth the discussion. My opinion, I think his experience and history make a 2nd worth it.

No, not at all,

24 goal, 28 year old Duclair>32 year old 13 goal Smith.

Numbers baby.

whatever went wrong with Pittsburgh this past season they were rolling towards end of year and we were lucky we got Washington in first round and not them, and I'm pretty confident if Pitt had made it, Reilly Smith would have been solid like he always is in the playoffs

28 years old off a 24 goal season is past the prime. Trading for a 32 year old 13 goal Smith, that's the sweet spot.

Love it. You know what, the best person for the Rangers GM job might be Chris Drury. But I think that might be by happy accident.

if there are still people here who don't believe Tom is the reason we can't consistently have intelligent hockey conversations it's really a lost cause

Listen you want to fool people into believing you’d have endorsed signing Duclair, go ahead, but two of us know exactly what you’re doing. You didn’t even want Duclair at the TDL you wanted Roslovic…who you’ve killed Drury for acquiring in the first place

Yeah, but who has the better advanced stats that you live and breathe by?

Rilley Smith (in a down year): CF% 53.4
Anthony Duclair (in an up year): CF% 48.0

I thought the advanced didn't matter and they don't win hockey games? Was and has that not been shouted down, day after day, year after year?

You'll never see me write "I like Goodrow." The problem with Goodnow is that he should have been a Ranger..

He was acquired via trade, signed to a terrible contract and given away for nothing. That's not how you maximize leverage.

Who orchestrated that entire fiasco? (You know the answer.)

All I know is this: The more "predictive" posts (read: guess your a$$ off) you make about players, teams and their performance during the off season, the more cannon fodder you give other for the "I told you so's" later on.

But its all for fun.

Riley will work out or not work out based on his on ice performance. No measure of analytics or predictive stats can say for sure how he will or will not mesh with another player or line for that matter.

Resurgence happens against all measures, analytics or prognosticators. Most recent Rangers example, Jonathan Quick.

So let the play on the ice be the decider of the pissing contests.
