The asset thing I get, but I also don’t care enough about it. Especially if he performs, then I really don’t care lol.

I do not give a hill of beans about 2027 right now

all we do is criticize players for not getting it done in the playoffs and now everyone hates a clear playoff proven player in Reilly Smith, it's silly
- jimbro83

WE do not hate Reilly Smtih. We dislike that Rielly smith was acquired for 2 assets after a down season in which he spent time on a line with one of the best players ever while said player had 90+ point season. Nobody hates Rielly Smith. He's not a needle mover. But we so those moves all the time from this management group, Most have not worked out.

What would have been your preferred package for him then?

the guy has made a pretty good career at getting even strength points, something people have gone on and on and on and on about here, has produced in the playoffs, recently won a ring

we want somebody who "moves the needle" though for the 2nd round pick in 2027

Will Jones flourish as the 6th D this year playing next to Trouba? I think he can have a decent season. He showed flashes of great awareness and puck movement last year. Excited to see what he can do over a full 82 game season and with (hopefully) the trust of Laviolette. Trouba could end up being a good partner for him too. He can learn how to manage the lengthy season, and Troubs may play better matched against teams lesser players. I also think he will have quite the chip on his shoulder knowing he is likely gone after this year

Gustafsson started out really well last year but once he started to hit the wall they should have played Zac more, especially when he played well when Fox was injured

4 years younger and less of a cap hit even after a retention. But c'est la vie

Agreed. I think Gus was just one of Laviolettes guys. He seemed to really favor him. But Jones playing more frequently sure would've helped him going into this year. Although ultimately I think he will do well

It's also the last year of his contract. No commitment after this year. Also, we already have some depth and we all want to see Othmann get a fair shot.

Kreider-Zib-Smith
Panarin-Tro-Laf
Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko
Vesey-Carrick-Rempe
Brodzinski/Othmann/Edstrom

Lots of players that can warrant ice time. If the bottom 6 struggles, go find a Sprong type player and acquire him at the TDL

- NYR11

I truly don't believe Smith is the answer on the Zib/Kreider lovefest line. My hope is that he's on the third line. That could mean that Kakko is packaged for a RW for Mika/Kreider or, also not very likely, Othmann somehow comes out and earns it. It would APPEAR that this is the group we've got heading into next season with the idea that we will have plenty of room to add at the deadline. That's not sexy to me but there's no reason that roster won't be in good position come deadline time. I'd love for an out-of-left-field trade right now, though.

If your (the collective "your", not the person i am replying to) response to this is going to be any form of "Drury sux we suck everything sucks i tell everyone that i hope we lose because i have a need to feel any kind of connection to someone on here even if it is hate because i am a sad person" just don't please. i beg of you.

There was a point in time last season when Gus looked like EK65 with defense and i was beggging them to resign him. Wild times

His charts (gasp) were off the charts, and the eye test matched that. Is it a stamina thing for someone like him? I dont get it. He shriveled up like a you know what in cold water after that

Incorrect. Sign him and trade Kakko. Would ha been a move that had some guts. GMCD lacks that.

Kakko had no goals vs Florida either. Smith didn't have any playoff points last year.

That wasn’t the question. What would you have been happy trading for Smith?

What they gave up form Jack Roslovic. Trading for reputation almost never works. Trade for value.

Isn’t Smith technically a value? He didn’t play well last year and we bought the dip.

Potentially. But even if you look as his shots on goal, that was also down. Just don't think he's going in the right direction. Especially as he gets older.
